Thanks for the kind birthday greetings. I had a nice birthday topped off by a great steak in the middle of no-where. It was at a place called Nicoli`s Italian-American Steakhouse. My wife and I like to try out-of-the-way restaurants from time to time but this one really took the cake. Discover Oklahoma did a story on this restaurant so we decided to give it a try. The owner does all the cooking himself and uses recipes his grandfather brought over from Italy. We drove to Anadarko and then headed 3 ½ miles north, nearly missing a small sign, to a small house. The restaurant was literally a small farmhouse that had been converted to a restaurant. It had about 12-15 small tables and the creakiest wooden floor. It was hilarious. A waitress that weighed about 80 pounds walked past our table and the floor rocked. But the food was awesome. I had the best rib eye I have ever eaten that I didnÂt cook in my backyard. My wife also loved her garlic steak and fettuccini Alfredo. The meal was topped off with homemade tiramisu that was great!

Paul - is there another lily nut on this forum? I'm crazy over them. I really got started just a couple or three years ago, though. But so far, I've got 'Casablanca', 'Stargazer' (who doesn't), 'Oklahoma City', 'Muscadet', 'Mojave', 'Touching', 'Red Hot', 'Salmon Twinkle', 'Tom Pouce', 'Rodolfo', formosanum, and cardiocrinum. I have a few daylilies of the ordinary variety, a peach and a pink. But, my true love are the orientals, and orienpets. 'Silk Road' is my next purchase with a few others that I don't know yet what they'll be.

I am definitely a nut. You'll love Silk Road. I got mine in the spring last year, and this year it is almost 6 feet tall. Here is a picture of it from last night:

Oh, yeah, I'm really gonna love this! Been wanting it for a long time, but did not, would not, could not bring myself to order it from Wayside, a pathetic excuse for a gardening retailer if you ask me. That looks like Touching on the left, is it? If it is, can you tell whether or not the Silk Road beats the Touching for fragrance?

YEAH! I am sooooo sooooo glad to meet another lily nut. My friend across the street is one, too. We run the gamut between longiflorums, trumpets, martagons, asiatics, L.A.'s, orientals, asiatics, and daylilies (even tho not true lilies). Keep your fingers crossed for bloom on my cardiocrinum - one of these years! Would love to share with you, but I think you're way ahead of me. My formosanum is going great guns, so I hope to have tons of blooms (I have 4 stalks from one tiny plant, planted last spring). My friend, Ralph, has a bunch of stalks, but his have been in the ground for awhile. I also gave him my new bulbs a couple of years ago because I had to have brain surgery very quickly, and I just didn't have time to get them in the ground. But, hey, I know where he lives, right?

That is Lilium "Shocking" to the left of Silk Road. I'm not that crazy about it, truthfully, but my wife likes it so it lives another day. You really need to check out the Lily Garden website (thelilygarden.com). That is where I got Silk Road and a few others lilies.

Oh, yeah....I'm planning on order from The Lily Garden this year, and Silk Road is at the top of my list. I think that 'Touching' and 'Shocking' are siblings. You can definitely see the resemblance. I can't believe you don't like it! For shame!

My orientals are beginning to decline already with this heat.

I think I want to grow up and be a lily gardener!
