Christmas Palm Seeds???

Hello. I ordered some Christmas Palm seeds online this week. When they showed up I was quite suprised to find what looks like hard raisins. The same size as raisins. A little browner than raisins. But they look like raisins.

I thought Christmas Palm seeds were larger (almost an inch long). Husky like a Foxtail Palm seed. Am I wrong?

Does the Christmas Palm seed resemble a mini coconut that has to be "husked" to get to the real seed that looks like a raisin? Thanks.

I planted some seed of Adonidia Jan 1st. And they are BIG seeds. Yours sound like old Papaya seed.

Here is a pic of some.They are over an inch long with the fruit on them and slightly smaller when removed.Your seeds are not Christmas palm seeds.

What's up nash I am new to Christmas Palms all i can tell you is they are about the size of your index finger pretty big I am not sure but it does look like the hull is still on them they are good and heavy every seed i have got from this guy is good so i would assume these are too . Is your shelf a warm place ? The seeds need to be in a warm place. You can community pot them outside in Fl this time of year and they will sprout quickly.Keep moist and in a semi shaded spot and just put them in a pot big enough and after they produce one frond you can transplant. Try not to brake the root or the seed off the seedling or it can die. Make sure you use peat/perilite mix so they are easy to get out of the pot for transplanting.

They don't last very long no matter what you do.You can try keeping them dry and around 70 degrees is my guess. They will die evenually from the dry. There are some palm seeds that will take a year or two to germinate but these are not one of them.

Thank you very much. I only spent 6.00 on 25 seeds, so it's almost worthless to fight the guy over it. But he has no idea what he is talking about. Thanks again.

On second thought Dnice,those sound like a Phoenix sp. (date) palm seed. If you get something nice,that's some consolation.

My money was refunded. The seller told me to keep the seeds and insisted that they were for a Christmas Palm. I mailed all but one back to her, and began soaking it last night. I told her that I will grow this raisin and send her pics!!!!

stanofh....I have Silver Date Palm seeds now, I am growing True Date and Canary Dates currently. Most Phoenix species look like coffee beans to me. This seed really resembled a raisin. Even my wife asked me why I was buying raisins online!!!

David.....thank you very much for the offer. My brother in law ordered 100 off of ebay, and said he will give me 20 which is all I really wanted anyway. Thank you very much though.

Okay. Really excited now. I have 20 Christmas Palm seeds. They are about half the size of a Foxtail Palm seed. Light brown/tan in color. They are husky like a miniature coconut. I am soaking them now. Do I need to remove the "husk"? Or should I plant them as they are?

I have planted some too. I found they sprout up very quickly. As seedlings they grow fast too. Do they continue to grow fast ? Those that started off in sunny position doing great, those that was moved into sunny position later on were fried. So I have learned now that this must be done gradually.

Of all palm seedlings I have grown from seed, these really are fast starters. Sabal Bermuda palm pretty fast too.

Are the Golden form of Adonida easy to obtain? How do you prevent the yellowing decease ?

I would not put adonidia merrillii in the fast category. When they are seedlings they seem fast but after that it will take several yrs to get one above your head. They are a moderate grower in a tropical or sub tropical climate.
