Hi, if you still have them I'd love some double purple datura seeds and some orange butterfly weed seeds...I do have some Morning Glory seeds (Clarke's Heavenly Blue)(Blossom Star-Pastel Beauty)(Sunrise Serenade-Double Flowered)(Dwarf Tri-Color), some MoonFlower(Giant White), some Convolvulus(Enchantment Mix-Morning Glory Type)...I may not have enough of any 1 of the types to make a full amount trade but am more than happy to send a mix of them to make up a trade for the double purple datura seeds and orange butterfly seeds...we can also half the trade to like 12 seeds (give or take) of the double purple datura and orange butterfly if that is ok with you...thanks :)

Well, I can't tell you about the arid climate part. Maypop is fully hardy here under deep (6" or more) winter mulch. I've been growing it since the early 1990s, albeit with a break of a couple years when I lost mine to (surprise, surprise) voles. I've never had a ripe fruit, although once or twice came sort of close, beginning to color the arils and getting decent aroma, with the shell also beginning to turn slightly yellow. I think they just need more heat than my climate provides. I guess in NM it might work, depending upon altitude, etc. Don't pay big $$$ for a small start. They are really easy to germinate from seed, about like starting a morning glory or a sunflower. I have bought seed in the past from Sand Mountain Herbs in Alabama and from Johnny's. The flowers are just so pretty. I wish any of my cultivate flowers are as healthy as those native maypop's. They look very invasive though. They are everywhere in neighbor's yard. I wish I could grow them in my yard just to look at the flowers, but they might just pop up everywhere and choke my other flowers. Anyway, I tried tropical passionfruit. It was very aromatic. I think that it looked black when it's ready to be eaten. How about maypop? I am curious to try tasting it. Do I pick it when it turns black, or it does not turn black at all

All passiflora generate cyanide as a natural defense against being eaten. This includes unripe fruit. Once the fruit is fully ripe--ie it drops from the vine--the cyanide is gone and the pulp is safe to eat. Maypops have been a food source for Native Americans for tens of thousands of years, after all. Avoid eating the rind, leaves and stems and you will be fine.
