Best place to get bulk windmill palm seeds?

I was wondering where the best place (or rather cheapest place lol) to get bulk windmill palm seeds would be, somewhere between 1000-5000 per order.

Why not just find a place that has them growing and retrieve the seeds for free. They ripen around Thanksgiving Day.

Tell me you're free this Friday evening. I'll let you dig them out. I have many requests for palm seeds so I'll place 10 000 seeds from pruned palms at the Gorge waterway park on both the Saanich and Esquimalt sides as I take a walk to see how the eucalyptus and palms are doing in the area. Palm enthusiasts will just grab the bluish seeds from park benches and tables when they take a Saturday or Sunday walk. I have thousands of seeds to get rid of every year and I know that southwestern British Columbia residents actually purchase these seeds. Let's put waste to use. I sometimes need to clear bracts that total 50 000 seeds from mature Windmill palms in Greater Victoria. I used to hand thousands of seeds to a palm grower who grew pups but he can't handle the volume of seeds.

Hi, Welcome to the site! As for your windmill palm, there are a few things that could be causing the problem. If its close to a heater, then the air is definitely way too dry for it. Windmill palms like humid air and dont do as well in dry situations (but they usually manage to do very well indoors when not directly near a source of heat). Also the soil can dry out a little bit. It should be moist, never soaked in water. Put your finger in the soil and its the soil is a little moist on top, then its good and you dont have to water. If its starting to get dry on top then give it just a little bit water. I rarely water mine during the winter (and it stays outside whenever night temperatures are above 25F which means most of the winter this year) So its either too wet, too dry, or gets too much dry air. A drafty window might work well for a windmill palm. It would get some fresh air and probably more moist air as well. But the cooler it is, the less you have to water it so dont over water it if its in temperatures that are cold. I never water mine when its below 60 degrees outside (rain water is the only water it gets and sometimes I will protect it from that water as well), but when its in the 70s or higher outside, I make sure its always getting enough water. Don't forget to check out to trade seeds... I did over 1000 trades and SASBE's last spring alone. My collection has really grown with trades etc. After growing out trades I know what grew true and what hybrids I liked(hoping they were stable for next year). Trades might not be from isolated seeds but a LOT/most grow true. Postage is cheeper than $3.00+ a seed pack and the selection is MUCH bigger. Actually some crosses I've grown were lots better than what I was expecting from the traded seeds if they grew true. Hoped the crosses grew true afterwards...most don't,revert back to one of the parents eventually which sucked.

In the past when RPS updated their website (it is now nicer but much slower to browse) my account was deleted with all my past orders. They did not move any past orders or any customer accounts to their new site. The seeds that take about 2 months to arrive since they wait a month to charge a card and then another month to deliver arrive continuously partly or mostly not viable, shattered or they germinate in very low percentage such as 3% or none. I did have some very limited success with RPS seeds in the past, but a lot of misidentifying is going on, even now I realized the couple of palms that germinated from the batch are different species than I purchased. Take your chances. If you have no other source for specific seeds, take a chance and good luck. I am now ordering seeds, germinated seedlings and palms directly from suppliers even that I am just a collector and even if it is harder to achieve that.

That's what I'd like to do, but I unfortunately don't know anyone that has a mature windmill palm. Most of the palms here are texas and florida sabals, pindo, sabal minors, a few canary island, european fan palms, and a few washington (mexican fan) palms.

I have fortunei and wagnerianus palms growing here, but they are not even close to being mature.

Thanks for the link. It's now bookmarked! I was looking for fortunei seeds, but the windamere ones might be a better option for me! Do they sprout as easily as fortunei?

You could e-mail Toby at rare palm seeds and see when he'll be getting fortunei.

According to the link below, windamere seeds seem to be easy to germinate. There is also some great germination tips on the page.

Windamere is T.latisectus,they grow slow and are not as hardy as Fortunei.
I would stay with Fortunei,Wagnerianus,Fortxwag.
What area do you live in?
If you want to try Latisectus there have been some sellers on E-bay that have them,that's where I bought mine(-:

I'm near Jacksonville, Florida. I saw those 150 lots of seeds on ebay and was hoping to get a bit of a better deal on a 1000 lot of them. I think a fair price would be around $40-$50 max for 1000 of them.

How would princeps palms do here? That's one of the other palms I really want to have at least one of. Of course, I probably would just buy a live one vs seeds, because it'd be more for my landscape than to grow in mass quantities.
