Which would you buy?

Hm.. I have a choice of buying one of either:

Purple Rain

Victoria

Temptation

Do I get a Purple Rain and leave it outdoors over winter (meant to be reasonably hardy?) or get a Victoria or Temptation and bring them in over winter..? (Zone 8bish here.) Which is the most difficult-to-find one?

Would appreciate any advice!

Oh my! I wasn't familiar with any of those, so I looked them all up, and am totally personally smitten with Temptation! Aptly named! The others, while beautiful like all passiflora, were more common looking, I thought. But I have absolutely no information about rarity, so I suppose, in the end, follow your instinct *lol* But I personally would buy the Temptation. Here in California, it's not an issue of how hardy, but how to keep them under control! I have p. exoniensis (my favorite), molissima, giant granadilla (which could possibly become a favorite if I could get the dang thing to flower....), citrina, lavender lady, sunburst, biflora, sanguineolenta, and caerulea. Have seeds to others, but haven't sown them yet!

Temptation is beautiful but is prone to mildew in our climate.
Purple Rain or Violacea should both be fairly hardy, Purple Rain being more so without doubt. Best time to but is Spring.

Thanks so much for all of your feedback, Rosefolly, you're right about M.A.C being a p.m. magnet here and easy to find so I've scratched her from my list. The idea of taking cuttings from the more rare roses is a great idea; I'll take 3 cuttings from cl. Florence Bowers' Pink Tea while I'm at it, along with 2- 3 of the following. Westside Road Cream Tea Clementina Carbonieri R. moschata cl. K.A.V. Mme. Jules Bouche (of all the H.T.s I've ever rooted this one was in the top 5 of having the highest percentage of strikes) If I have room in my rose rooting bed, I'll take a cutting from each of the roses that you've all kindly mentioned such as ' Souvenir. de Pierre Notting, Catos cluster, and Lady Hilingdon, thanks again Lux

I've been cooking on my Diva 36 inch for 5 months and really like it. I've had great results. It's very powerful and I have to remember to keep the heat on lower settings in order not to burn my food. It delivers more heat than I had expected. I only put it on full power if I need to quickly bring something to a boil. Then, I turn it down to actually cook what I intend to cook. It brings water to a boil quickly. I'm so happy I don't have to clean grill grates...did that for years and hated it. I'm very pleased with the Diva so far. I bought a large set of Al clad pans at Macy's for $420. I think the best set of pans that I found were at William Sonoma. They were the brushed nickel pans made for induction. However, they were around $800 for the set. I also picked up a few no name brands pots from TJ Max and Home Goods. They seems to work just as well as the all clad for boiling pasta etc. I definitely think it's worth the investment to buy a really good non-stick frying pan. Macy's also has a set of pans made specifically for induction that were priced less than $300.

Toilet: which would you buy?

My toilets are all Kohl;er and I've been very happy with them. The Memoirs is a bit more, but the Cimmaron can be found just over $200 with the Highline for less than $200. I am assuming you have seen the used Toto and are happy with the appearance of it. Assuming it looks good, do you know anything about the history on it or why it is not in use in its former location? If the tank and bowl are in good shape and do not leak, they do clean easily and well. It would be a good idea to replace the seat and the inner workings -- the former for your comfort and the later to assure everything works well after the toilet has been sitting unused. We have moved into 2 houses that sat vacant for a while and both times had to replace all the internal mechanisms on the toilets. The most common issue was leaking, causing the water to run constantly from the tank into the bowl. The inspector and a plumber said that was common after period of non-use, so I'd just start with new working parts. If you are comfortable with it, yep -- most of us have bought homes that included used toilets and not even thought about it.

Which would you buy? Bosch or Miele?

dmeah, sounds like you are falling for the idea that paying more means you are less likely to need a repair. Consider that the lower priced Bosch probably outsell Miele several times (or more ) over. Even seeing a fraction of the number of complaints for the more expensive brand doesn't necessarily equate to a lower ratio of units sold to problems. Higher prices should balance out with a higher overall quality, but as you said, they all have issues. I think you'll be happy with Miele or anything in the top half of the Bosch lineup (the lower portion they put out a few years back to compete with other more modestly priced units did seem to have more complaints -- at least back then). Your reasons may differ, but for me, to pay enough more for one as it would cost me to replace the other unit completely out of warranty (or in my case a second DW and a micro drawer), I'd need something I'd definitely need and use in the meantime -- racking options, wash features -- something tangible. Especially since I've used two Bosch units for 8+ years and been very happy with the cleaning and how quiet they are. (In case you want to feel better putting that money elsewhere)

Myles - Many thanks for that, I hadn't considered that mildew would be an issue. I'll probably get Purple Rain for outdoors for now, then. :)

Amanda - Wow, very envious of your collection! I'm gradually trying less frost-hardy ones, as caerulea and Constance Elliot are still growing despite plenty of frosts. I definitely agree that Temptation's gorgeous - will see how it does, might have to keep it indoors though!
