A Book by William Woys Weaver That Is A Rare Find

Today I found a wonderful out-of-print book that I've wanted for a long time.

The book is: HEIRLOOM VEGETABLE GARDENING: A Master Gardener's Guide To Planting, Seed Saving and Cultural History" by noted food historian and gardening expert William Woys Weaver. I found it at a Half-Price Books store in Lewisville, Texas. The book is a hardcover first edition with the dust jacket, and it cost me $16.95, which is a great price for a 400+ page book with both color photos and black-and-white illustrations.

This book is highly sought after by heirloom vagetable gardeners, vegetable and food historians, book collectors, etc. You can usually pick up a used copy for around $100-$400 at amazon.com, so I was thrilled to find it today at HPB. Simply thrilled.

I've already read the entire section on heirloom tomatoes and can't wait to read, and probably re-read, the book in its entirety.

I picked up a few other books, but this was the one that had me walking on air.

I also visited a couple of nurseries and picked up a few plants and some seeds and supplies that I've been needing. The is the first day in ages that I've spent zero time in the garden.

A good day shopping is almost as much fun as a good day gardening.
