Just another 10 inches or so of snow overnight. I'm running out of places to put it...and I'm serious about that. Will have to prune or remove some plantings since they have been buried or damaged for more than a month now. Last Winter I can recall that was worse in terms of snow or persistent cold was '77/'78. That season, the ocean was frozen over in spots for quite awhile, and my high school (which was the only one in the county that never closed)was shut down for a week.

They just showed Brooklyn...Uggg! cars are completely covered...where to put the snow once you do dig out?

Ho Hum is right....they thought 6-9 here in EWR..but they say 14+...ouch!!!

Definitely over 12 inches here. All the trees are covered in the wet snow and some tree branches are leaning a lot. My backyard probably has over 2 feet of snow because of all the snow left from the last 3 or 4 storms!

At least there is going to be a major warm up coming up to melt all this snow. Just kidding! Every day in the 10 day forecast is at least 5 degrees below average and there is a chance for some light snow this weekend and heavier snow is possible mid next week if the storm comes up the coast (lets hope it doesnt). Seems like major snow is occuring about once a week now and with all this cold, none of it is melting!

Denise, it can take a while for PS to make roots in water. More than a few weeks is normal. As long as it looks alive, don't give up on it. If it's wilting, remove another leaf or two. This time of year, I would probably just put them in a pot or the ground & skip the water step. Although the water method almost always works, I think the growth takes longer than a potted cutting when the weather is right (warm out.) Garden_for_life, I googled pics of those Coleus names and saw some very pretty pics - a few diff plants but all pretty. I bought a yellowish Coleus last year that I absolutely love! The one in that pic is in a medium exposure. Where I put that plant in full sun, it turned almost white, and in more shade the pieces developed a lot of red around the leaf edges. It didn't grow as fast as most others in any spot but I love the color and the saved pieces are doing well so far this year.

The last two years, I've gotten some very good Golden Russets from a PYO orchard in late October and early November. This year, I was passing through the area (more than an hour from home, in a direction I rarely go) in late September. I decided to pick a dozen or so Golden Russets, even though I figured it was a bit early. The ones I sampled right away were around 14 brix and not sweet enough. A month later, the last couple I've had have been in the 18-19 brix range and pretty good, though not as quite as good as the 20-22 brix from last fall which were almost perfect to my tastes. So, letting them hang is good, but if you are concerned about damage (animal predation?), then picking and storing them for a few weeks is also a good option. I pick most of my roses at Edwards Greenhouse here locally. They offer 100s of roses, and I did pick my Memorial Day out early just like fragrancenutter. Because our winter is going on when the roses first become available, we pick and pay ahead of time and receive a 10% discount if we do this before March 31. Then Edward's pampers your roses in a special greenhouse until the time you choose to take them home. Only the "chosen" roses are in this greenhouse. The head of roses and perennials will order special roses for you, too, which I have done several times. This woman is a force of nature, growing hundreds of peonies and clematis at her home for Edwards, as well as running a massive perennial and rose department. I am lucky, I guess. And rose prices, especially for the five gallon Austin's, are quite reasonable. I still managed to pick a dud Memorial Day! Or maybe I am a dud grower of Memorial Day. I think how that rose turned out was a combination of factors. I certainly don't blame Edward's. I have had duds from Palatine and other rose sellers, too. It's all sort of a gamble. My thoughts on your dilemma(s): Curtains-I don't think you have enough room for stacking proper sized curtain panels without covering up a lot of your windows and losing a large amount of light. Consider a roman shade in either fabric or a woven wood to bring some texture into the space. Built-ins-if you don't like them, you might consider removing the vertical piece and painting them the same color as the walls to help them disappear. A contrasting color would enhance them. If you like that idea, the darker blue pulled from your comforter would be pretty. Artwork-I agree that the pics over the bed are too small. Something larger in a landscape format would work better over the bed. Duvet-I agree that the large pillows don't seem to work. Could you post a close up picture of the duvet fabric so we can accurately see the colors? Mounting the t.v. won't make it go away so I would just leave it. Perhaps add a pretty decorative vase and a few pictures to the right to balance it out a bit. Mirror-Maybe you could find some sort of easel or stand for it so you can angle it in the corner. Getting beyond ridiculous at this point. I have two feet of snow in the fields around the house (with drifts to 3 -
3 1/2 feet). Last weekend the deer heard settled in the back yard. They usually don't eat the holly but they are now. Fortunately, I never pruned my big Japanese holly so I didn't care--still needs to be pruned in the Spring. I took the lights off the Trachys--they were starting to burn a bit--from the warmth! Southern magnolias took a bit of the hit from the last one (too HEAVY and wet). Get ready, seems that the atmosphere is already gearing up for another MAJOR snow bomb toward the end of next week. Can you imagine what will happen once it eventually starts to RAIN on us--major flooding. Mostly staying home here--ordering more PALMS!!!

Since there isnt any more room left to pile the snow up on, I really dont want anymore! Possibly some more snow to shovel this weekend (some saying 1-3 inches) and next week definitely has potential to be bigger!! Keep an eye out!

I had to call in reinforcements to dig them out...

WOW! That is a lot of snow. I don't think I've ever seen snow here get to waist-deep levels. Weather patterns throughout the world seem to just get crazier and crazier. Whacky weather!
