HAVE: have palms to be given away

I am moving and have several Trachycarpus palms tht I am willing to give to the right person that can convince me that they have demonstrated caring for palms in this area before, and can provide winter protection . I have had them in the ground now for 8 years and I protect each winter and they are doing fine .... The person would have to dig them out and properly transport them .. so knowledge of how to do that is also important for me . I also have a 10' tall Queen palm that is in a 7 gallon pot that has been sunk into the ground , and is probably somwhat rooted in as well ,,,, the plants are located in Stamford Conneciticut ,,

Hi there,
I live in Northern Mass. This sounds like something I may be into. I rebuilt an old garage into a plant house, and built an addition on to that, also for plants. I would not keep the palms outdoors, but keep them in there. How large are the plants? My plant house is 20 x 25 (not counting the addition) and has a height of about 15 feet at the peak. (I have a 8 foot Norfolk Island Pine in there, with tons of head room to spare.)
I have a Jeep Cherokee that serves the purpose of moving plants pretty well :) Let me know if this is something you'd like to talk about. What's your time frame for this?

Hello,
My name is Jazz, I live in Amherst, Massachusetts (down the road from UMass) and I am 16 years old! I have done tons of research online and I have purchased my own palms with what pocket money I get. At first I didn't believe that palms could grow outside in New England, but hey we discover new things everyday! Once I learned about the windmill palms, needle palms, sabal palms, pindo palms; I couldn't stop talking to people about it. At one point my mother asked me if I had OCD over palms! HaHa! I watch everybody's channels on cold hardy palm trees on you tube. I even have one of my own! My profile name is Coconut Kid and I have a handful of videos of my Palm/Tropical collection. Right now I have 5 Virginian trachycarpus fortunei seedlings in nursery pots that I am going to put outside next spring and then protect them in the winter with maybe a burlap coat (maybe mulch or both) and a bucket over them. I also purchased a needle palm from Florida on eBay that I will put outside in the spring. I will probably only but burlap around the trunk of it in the winter. I also currently am waiting for 12 British Colombia, Canadian trachycarpus fortunei seedlings in the mail from Banana Joe from Salt Spring Island. The reason I am working with smaller palms is because I don't have a lot of money to spend on cold hardy palm trees, but I can assure you that I am capable of growing palms in the New England terrain and weather! I've given up on growing Astilbe and Lady's Mantle. Had a nice clump of Lady's Mantle once. I had a dickens of a time keeping it going the first year. The following year it grew much bigger & bloomed, but nothing remarkable like I have seen in other people's photos and magazines. Still, my heart soared and I had hopes for having a beautiful bed of it. Then it died back to the ground and that was that. It did not reseed. Similar story with various clumps of Astilbe I've planted over the years. Pitiful little blooms that the wind blew them to heck and then they died. Not worth the trouble or expense. Too dry and too hot here I suppose. ~Annie

I just did a library with almost an identical layout. I love it and we've been using it a lot. My advice would be to pick your sofa first! We did our built ins when we built and then I decided I wanted a sofa in the niche. The size was very limiting. Also, I really like the lighting phoebe choose. I wish I had paid better attention to my light options. ETA: a few pics from my inspiration file: It seems that in a lot of these rooms the bookcases, walls, trim are all painted the same color. If that is the look you are going for then maybe do paint grade bookcases and paint them a pretty gray. WT are going to be a challenge! Good luck. I'm sure it will be a lovely retreat. It's a long story, but the contractor's guy did the knockdown texture, and didn't do it well. Most of it I can live with or fix, but there were 2 areas that were so bad they just needed to be redone. When I texted the contractor to tell him the two areas weren't done right, he texted back that it would be the same price to come back and do it over as many times as I wanted to pay for it. When I asked if he didn't guarantee work that was done on an hourly rate, he replied: "How do I know it was not don't (his typo) correctly when it could be just your perception that you did not like the way it turned out. Not being done correctly is a broad statement. I will not get inito this discussion with you. It is not a warranty issue it is an issue that you don't like the way it turned out. That is not work was not done correctly." This was without even seeing the work, or saying he wanted to see it. And as many of you know, dh has been in the paint business since 1976, first as a painter and then in sales, and his father was a builder. Dh has seen A LOT of texture, both good and bad, and he thought this was really bad. The contractor also knew dh and knew that dh knows his stuff. So that text message blew me away. Dh was gone at the time I sent the message and received this one, and I was so taken aback that I didn't even respond to that text. The contractor's next text was to say he was coming over to look at it. When he got here, and of course dh was gone, he admitted that both areas looked bad. Then he apologized. Sort of. He told me "I apologize for the tenor of my text message but I do not apologize for the reason I sent it." So I'm not sure what he was apologizing for. He thought I was one of those nit picky people who look for problems and didn't give me any credit for knowing what I was talking about. Very condescending attitude. A lot of you have hit on the main reason I don't know if I want to post about it. He will blast me and I won't be able to counter, and he will make me look like I don't know what I'm talking about. I don't know for sure, but I assume from the replies to comments that the contractor is given the name of the reviewer. btw, after seeing all the work done, the contractor sounded surprised that I only wanted 2 places redone and he agreed to send someone out in the morning IF we would skim the walls and tape off everything so the worker only had to come in, shoot the texture and knock it down. Dh bought a texture sprayer and did it himself. Not a great job, but better than the one we paid for, and not bad considering dh hasn't sprayed texture in over 10 years and this guy supposedly does it all the time. The crazy thing is that he kept talking about how great it looked. p.s. I just checked one of my reviews on AL, and I can go back and change my review.
