Your descriptions look good for the ones I've grown from that list. A few I have never grown. I'm sure Dawn will add more later. Cherokee Purple is one of my favorites. Berkeley Tie Dye is a beefsteak type. I've grown a few of Brad Gates varieties. If you haven't looked at his site. Just type in Brad Gates Wild Boar Farms. I will be interested in how it produces for you. You have several on your list that are good to great producers. Was reading the forum while eating. Better get back to potting up plants. After seeing Dawn's nice ones at the swap I should of just came and picked up some and tossed mine. LOL. Jay

Berkeley Tie-Dye--Open pollinated. A tri-color (green with yellow and red stripes) from Brad Gates at Wild Boar Farms. Indeterminate. Regular leaf. Fruit approx. 8-16 oz. Think it is a mid-season to late season ripener.

Black Brandywine-Open pollinated. A black tomato, which in the tomato world usually means a dark maroonish-red. Is supposed to be about 85 DTM but is always earlier than that for me here. High yield for a black type. Indeterminate. William Woys Weaver's grandfather obtained it from Dr. Harold Martin and said it was a cross of Fejee Improved and Brandywine. Great flavor.

Brandymaster, Pink--Heirloom. Newly on the market for 2010. From Seeds-By-Design and said to be related to the famed Brandywine tomato. I suspect this tomato is an attempt by Seeds-By-Design to breed something similar to Burpee's Brandy Boy....a Brandywine-like tomato that produces better yields and produces earlier. Indeterminate. Hybrid.

Cherokee Purple. Open pollinated. Heirloom. Maroonish-reddish-purple with green shoulders. Indeterminate. Approx. 75-80 DTM. Outstanding flavor.

Dixie Golden Giant. Open pollinated. Indeterminate. Yellow beefsteak type with very slight pink blush at blossom end of plant, but not enough to be considered a bi-color. Produces large fruit and plant is large and vigorous as well.

Moreton--Hybrid. Indeterminate. Was Harris Seeds' first hybrid back in the 50s and then dropped in the late 1990s. Brought back a couple of years ago by the NJAES and Harris Seeds. DTM is about 70-75 days here in our climate. Softer texture than most hybrid types. Produces red, oblate fruit with great, old-fashioned tomato flavor. Was one of the tomatoes that made New Jersey tomatoes famous and which were referred to collectively as the Jersey tomato

Nebraska Wedding--Open-pollinated. Determinate. Gets about 4' tall for us most years but some people say it only gets about 3' tall. Is very wide and bushy and needs to be caged or well-staked. Produces orange beefsteaks that are very meaty and have great flavor. One of our favorites for sandwiches. Produces fruit in clusters of 3 or 4. Heavy producer and heat tolerant. One of our faves.

Pink Climber--Open pollinated. Indeterminate. Very vigorous and a heavy producer of pink tomatoes.

Rutgers--If you got this one from me, it is actually Rutgers Select. Open Pollinated. DTM about 78 days. Old-fashioned tomato flavor, which means it has the tart zinginess often present in the older tomato varieties.

Tennessee Britches--Open-pollinated. Indeterminate. Produces good yields of huge, pink tomatoes often exceeding 1 lb. in size. (They get up to 2 lbs. in climates milder than ours, but seldom get that large here.) Tasty. Said to be a late tomato, but is a mid-season for us here in southern OK.

Golden Sweet Yellow Grape--Indeterminate. DTM=60 days. Produces long clusters of yellow grape tomatoes. Similar to OP variety called Ildi.

Sun Cherry--Hybrid, Indeterminate, red-fruited cousin to Sun Gold. If you like the flavor of Sun Gold, this is basically its equivalent in a red tomato. Produces heavy yields of red cherry type fruit, with a DTM of about 58 days. Great flavor, heavy producer.

They other two are the Agastache. They attract bees and other pollinators. I'm not a big fan of anise flavor, but in a pinch I eat a leaf in the garden to stave off the dry mouth so I can garden a few more minutes before going in to get a drink.

Now your turn. I have sun, full sun, shade, part shade, morning sun, afternoon sun, east side, west side, you name it for light. So where's the best place for the white Oriental iris?

Oh YEAH! I remember now :) They are so big and healthy.

I would do full sun. They can take it. Or you could do afternoon sun. They get a little ratty in the late summer, you might want to cut back the leaves then.

seedmama - do you happen to remember what were in those pots that were in the tray containing the toad lillies? I ended up with 5 of them. lisa_h told me that two of them are nepata('s?). So that leaves me with 2 pots of something else (one was potted in a really nice green pot. anyone? sound familiar?) and one pot of another that, to me, resembles a peony. The stem is dark red and the leaves are oval. I know you told me once, but when I awoke Sunday.....names of plants were spinning in my head!!!

I've selected 10 more tomatoes from the ones Dawn left (Lord knows I really need more tomatoes! ha!). Yesterday I planted all the daylillies, naked ladies, yellow iris, tiger lillies, and toad lillies that were left. I also planted both flats of the leftover elderberries so I'm sure I'll have some to share.

I have an entire flat remaining of White and Purle Angel Trumpets. Can anyone tell me if they are datura or brugmansia???

I can't wait to see all these new additions next spring!

I really think all datura/angel's trumpets are datura.

Ya know....that's what I thought too! Seems there is a difference, but they can't seem to agree, =( I've attached a previous thread of another forum name that explains the difference. I guess I won't know what I've got until it's bloomed. =)

While there are angel's trumpets that are brugmansias, I can tell you for certain the white ones I brought are datura as I think are the purple ones I brought, but Dawn can say for sure as my purple one came from her last year. The purple one I have has smaller flowers than the white ones. The white ones make huge, probably 4" to 6" across, and very highly scented flowers. A white one I grew in a whisky barrel when I was still in an apartment had over 30 blooms on it one night, and you could smell them from more than 10 feet away.

Whoops, I see I left out a tiny word....I believe all of the angel's trumpets/daturas that were left for your are daturas.

I was told they need partial shade. I have grown them in morning sun. I'm not sure that's necessary, supposedly it's a weed.

I do think they do better with some shade. My apartment had an east-facing patio which is where I grew things. The daturas I planted along the back of my house, west, last year seemed to suffer in the heat. One that grew on its own at the edge of the patio did much better, but the patio is covered and nearer trees that provide shade in the afternoon. They really might do fine anywhere, providing you're willing to give them enough water. They wilt easily when thirsty but perk back up quickly once watered.

Datura can come back from the root in warm areas. My sister's did that yearly in Texas. Here I've had them come back from the old root when we would have a mild winter. However, they reseed themselves profusely. If you don't want these things coming up all over creation then you need to be diligent in removing spent flowers each day.

Bees like them as do the larvae of some sphinx-type moth. I had one moth lay eggs one year on mine. They had the leaves down to just spines in one day! Of course, there were a couple dozen of them on the plant.

Will the oriental iris do ok with morning sun and afternoon shade?

The toad lilies came with a bunch of Lenten Rose/Helleborus. The babies look different than the adult plant. The adult looks like a peony (I think) but the babies remind me of little strawberries.

Paula, It's been so long since I planted the seed for the original daturas that I'm not sure if I remember which ones they are. They've reseeded themselves for about 10 years here.

I think the purple-flowered ones are datura inoxia and the white-flowered ones are probably Datura metel. I've grown about 15 kinds from seed, and these are the only two that reliably reseed for me. That's why I'm not sure which one the white one is...because I had several whites in that area and don't know which one reseeded. It looks like D. metel though.

I have them in full sun and in part shade, and the ones in full sun will wilt on the hottest summer days, but they always bounce right back.

I brought one tomato plant to the swap and took one home from the swap. However the one I brought home is doing terrible. Not sure whats wrong with it. It started wilting Sunday and has gone way down hill today. I've watered it. I haven't had a chance to plant it yet. I was going to try planting it today, but it looks almost dead. No other visable signs of damage, just wilting. It was a KBX variety. Any help would be appreciated.

I ca't remember the name of the variegated plant brought by, I think, Imp? It's absolutely gorgeous and think she said it's a shade lover? There was a poor little broken left so I took pity on it and brought it home. but not sure what to do with it.

I brought the Hellebores (Lenten Rose), Tricyrtis (toad lilies) and the Variegated Solomon's Seal.

The Solomon's Seal will tolerate sun, but prefers afternoon shade. It will grow to a nice clump in a few years. I started out with a couple of pots several years ago and now I have it around my hosta, ferns and trees. DH slammed the trunk on the poor little things and broke them. They will be fine next year. As soon as I can figure out how to do it I will post pics of my clumps. They also have darling little bells that hang along the stems in early spring.

The Hellebores like to be grown under deciduous trees. In February they put out wonderful flowers which are greatly appreciated at that time of year! In the summer they have great leaves which make a small bush. (I cut off all of the leaves when they flower. All of mine are now covered with leaves again). In the summer they like to be shaded and no wet feet. Actually I am amazed at how hardy they are. I only began seeing them around this part of the world in the last 7-8 years. I thought they were as hard as the dickens to grow. Not really.

I thought that Datura was called Devil Trumpet because the trumpets faced upward and Brugmansia was called Angel Trumpet because the trumpets faced downward. Could be wrong, often am.

I have no idea why it wilted, but I've had a heck of a time getting any Kellogg's Breakfast seed in any year to sprout, grow, and survive as a seedling long enough to get it into the ground. I am hoping for better luck with KBX. So far, the one I planted this year is doing OK, but now I'm worried because it and your KBX were from the same batch of seeds that I received from Jay, unless somebody else also brought KBX.

I have no idea why it is wilting. Wilting can indicate it is too wet, too dry or has a disease that's impairing its vascular system. High wind can dry out the foliage and make it wilt.

Imp, I've never heard Datura's called Devil's Trumpets, but I like it. Just the seed pods alone look sort of evil and devilish to me. I have heard it called Thorneapple or Devil's Thorneapple though.

THANK YOU IMP!!!! I've been so mystified on these unlabeled plants...but I just couldn't cast them aside. Seedmama stopped back by tonite to help identify and so far, I think I did okay. I've still got 2 un-identified...but if/when they recover, I'll post pics. I promise to take good care of the ones that were left for me. The toad lillies have been in their new home since mid-Sunday.

I probably had KBX there also, but I'm not sure. If so, the seeds for mine also came from Jay. I have one growing in my garden and it is doing fine. Mine would be easy to spot because my plants were 3 weeks younger than Dawn's.

That's how I've always understood it. But I think there's an aversion to calling something Devil's trumpet, when Angel's trumpet sounds so much nicer. And common names get modified and adapted freely.

When my husband was inquiring about the name of Datura, he said, "You know the one in front of the druggie's house" which was a reference to a local meth bust. I knew exactly which plant he was referring to. So now, when speaking to hubs, instead of referring to Datura, or devil's trumpet, or other common names, I say "the druggie plant." That has implications all its own...

It's funny how just a few words trigger a chuckle when your mind connects them to an incident. For those of you that don't know, Seedmama is a CPA. When she posted her 'bean thread' the other day and listed not only every bean name, but also the number of beans she had, I cracked up.

I read the post to my DH and he laughed also. In the Air Force, we always called the finance people, 'the bean counters'. It has made me chuckle many times since the night she posted it.

I went ahead and planted the KBX, it wasn't overly wet, just moist. It was pretty root bound in the cup, but I wouldn't think would cause that. I guessed that maybe it didn't like the ride to Paula's house. It is now planted and we'll see if it makes it. It's not a big deal if it doesn't survive, I have way to many tomato plants and I've got about 10 Baker Family Heirloom seedlings to find a home for. LOL
