TWC is showing video footage from KFOR of damage to trees, power lines and homes somewhere in Norman.

Anyone heard from Chandra?

I was wondering that exact same thing.

The Weather Channel said that they even had to evacuate the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, which made me think that the storm might even be closer to Chandra than to Paula.

Norman is reporting over 1,000 customers without power so we might not hear from the Norman folks for a while.

I think his house is north of where the damage is, (if the TV is report right) but he was probably at work. I hope he will check in when he can.

I was never nervous of tornadoes until that big one in 1999. Boy, now I just really worry when I hear about them.

Hey Guys! P-mac here! I have talked with Chandra. They're fine, no damamge to his home or garden. I've safe & no damage either.

DH was home at the time. Watched the funnel go back into the clouds and float right over the top of us.

Wow! I bet your DH thought that one came a little bit too close for comfort.

Glad your family and Chandra's are fine and that everyone's property escaped damage.

Think it is going to be a really long weekend around here.

We were trying to chase it and came to the conclusion that we never plan to chase in Norman again, or in any largish city for that matter. It was unbelievable how many people were out on the road driving around as the tornado was on the ground. We were stuck in traffic on Highway 9 the entire time. I should have just stayed at work from the sound of it, because several people saw the tornado from the observation deck of the National Weather Center. From our vantage point there was just too much rain. I'm glad to hear that the tornado missed all of you! I'm sure Normanites will be even more on edge tomorrow now.

Yeh Paula, Glad you are safe and also glad you have talked to Chandra. That storm coming into the SW part of the State doesn't look so good either.

My family lives in central Norman. We live on a street where one of the tornadoes came through. Everyone on our block lost trees and fences and some homes were more damaged than others. So far we don't know of anyone on our block who was injured so that's good news. My son and I were on our way home when we stopped at a car wash to take shelter from the hail. The tornado hit just a couple of blocks away from us. Glad we stopped instead of coming home. My daughter was on the school bus when hail busted out some of the windows. The driver headed back to their school and just a few minutes after they got inside a tornado hit on that street too. God was watching over my family today and we are so blessed. Hope everyone else is doing ok.
Strange thing about tornadoes, trees are uprooted but parts of my vegetable garden are unharmed. Our fence was blown down but the plants sitting on the table right next to it were not moved. What a mystery. I only lost about half of my garden but nothing matters more than my family being safe.

Ihv2gratkids - Sorry about your damage, but you have the right outlook. Your family was protected and that's what matters most.

The tornado missed my office by about 50 feet! The pic in the Oklahoman with the sheet metal wrapped around the truck was across the alley from the back of my building! DH's building's roof was lifted and the offices were flooded. Our house is a few blocks south of the damage on Porter but we just got some hail, thank goodness.

Thank you all for your kind concern. We all are safe from the first round of the tornado that passed quite near to us. But now another series is heading towards us. I pray it will pass without much damage to anyone. Take care -Chandra

I'm sooooooo glad all of you are okay. I lived in Norman for 18 years, and during that time don't recall a tornado ever hitting Norman - doesn't mean it didn't, I just don't remember one. We lived close to campus on Lahoma street. I loved and still love Norman.

I thought about Paula and Chandra both and am so glad no damage no injuries.

I haven't even been outside to see if any damaged plants. All I know is it seemed like it rained hard and forever...

Ihv2gratkids, Y'all truly were blessed to escape harm. I am sorry your landscape and garden suffered damage, but all that can be replanted and replaced, and your family members are irreplaceable.

Imp, It is good to see you and to know you're alright. You should post more often, you know! I am glad y'all were not injured because it came really close to you. I hope the hail you got was not too damaging.

Chandra, All I could think of was that it could not possibly hit your place again! Not after last year's storm did so much damage! That would be so unfair. Of course, the weather does not play fair.

Susan, Considering how much Norman has grown in recent years, aren't you amazed how little damage there was? I know that I am. That's not to say there isn't significant damage, but in an area that heavily populated, it could have been much, much worse.

I hope today's weather is not as bad as expected. Last night's was bad enough.

In Grove we survived to garden another day. Wow, last night was loud. You could both hear it and feel it about 4 AM. I had everything covered that I could cover in case of a hail event, but we didn't get hail. Instead, we got heavy, heavy rain.

I had a nice expensive rain gauge last year, but I guess it rained without me checking and emptying it. It was glass and a cold night popped it. I should have another one on the way to me, but didn't have one up last night. I sure wish I would of had one since our Mesonet only shows .15 inches, and I got that much in my shoes just walking across the lawn. I am near the Ottawa County line and their Mesonet is reporting 3.67 inches. I uncovered my tomatoes this morning, and the sun just came out at 11 AM, but it comes and goes. It is a pain to uncover and cover again, but they would have gotten too hot today, so I had to do it. For our part of the State it looks like the greatest risk will be after dark tonight, so I will be covering them up again. A lot of other plants were just moved under a shed for the night, so I can just leave those there. They will get light but no sunshine, but that should be OK for a day or two. I need to go wash a couple of larger pots because the ones I used on my container plants kind of crushed a couple of them down a little.

I didn't get much sleep, but from the looks of things, I will probably get much less tonight.

Part of Kansas has or has had a PDS (Particularly Dangerous Situation) Tornado Warning or Warnings already today and one comment on Dr. M's blog at wunderground mentioned that NE OK better be watching because their area is right for storm development like what is occurring in Kansas. I have no idea if the person making that comment knows what he or she is talking about though.

I bet you got oodles of rain. My rainfall total practically never is the same as my mesonet station's, but often is close to our NWS Co-op Oberserver's totals because he's just a couple of miles NW of us.

The heat is one reason I didn't cover up very much yet. With sunlight, which is rare so far today but still likely to make its way through the clouds now and then, I was afraid anything under buckets or sheet plastic would heat up. Around 3 o'clock I might start covering up stuff. I need to go outside and gather up lawn furniture and squeeze it into the garage or potting shed.

Y'all don't need any sunlight there. It will just heat up the atmosphere and increase instability. Make that sunshine go away!

You know how it works. If I cover up stuff, no hail will fall. If I don't cover up stuff, we'll be slammed by hail. So, apparently covering up plants prevents hail and I'd better do it. I hate covering up and uncovering stuff and have mostly avoided it this year. I guess there's days you just have to do it. I always tell Tim if he'd just build me a Bio-Dome type covering over my garden, I could ignore the weather and not have to cover up plants. I guess I'll never talk him into it.

I didn't sleep much last night either. No storms were near me, but I was worried about where the storms were, and also about today. I expect less sleep tonight. If I could sleep in the tornado shelter, I'd do it, but I know from experience that I cannot close my eyes and sleep in there because I am sure that a snake or a black widow or a mouse will find me, even though I have thoroughly searched the shelter and none of those are even present in it. I guess I have too many creepy memories of our next-door-neighbor's old storm shelter left over from when I was a kid. It was dark and I think he must have left the door open all the time because it always had creepy crawly things in it.
