How often does Mahonia aquifolium (oregon grape) get this tall?

I have a very tall Mahonia aquifolium in my front yard. It's got to be over 15' tall. My house was built 25 years ago, and I'm assuming this plant was either here when they built, or seeded/was planted there soon after.

Since it's so huge I started wondering if it was a special cultivar that gets bigger than normal. I haven't turned up any info on extra-tall cultivars, so I'm assuming it's the species, just a very old specimen. I think it has been completely neglected for most of its life, and I understand Mahonias like it that way, but now I'm wondering if I should start giving it some compost to help it grow even taller.

How often have you come across oregon grapes this tall?

The rhododendron at the bottom of this picture is about 5' tall.
