I've never been on this site, but will add my note as to the weather. I'm in central Minnesota and we are having a major winter snow storm or rather blizzard. It is very cold and lots of snow and wind. Hope others are fairing better.

When you're retired you can sit back and enjoy the warmth of being inside and not having to travel in the winter if you don't need to.

Here in NW Illinois we had a higher temperatures and rain yesterday and now it's much colder and there's a dusting of snow with more to come later in the week.

Here in NE Ohio, 53 deg F., no snow, moderate west wind with a few occasional sprinkles.

I finally got my garlic cloves into the ground this morning.
After month of temps 10-20 deg average we finally are benefiting a little from the global warming.

I'm in North Eastern Washington State and it's been in the single digits for about a week. Suppose to get down to negative teens this week for a few days running. Coldest it's been in 14 years. Although I'm bemoaning the fact that I will probably lose some if not the majority of my new landscaping. New house, virgin barren land, thousands later :( As long as the car starts the pipes don't freeze and I can get to and have a job I will just keep smiling. Least I know my hosta will all come back. Stay warm and safe everyone.

We get a sprinkling of snow on the mountain tops here a few times each Winter. Glad that the only snow I see is 20 miles away and 1500 ft up. Tonite is is dropping down to freezing here in Silicon Valley, so I had to cover my dwarf lime. I do not envy you folks who deal with this cold weather all winter long. Finally, h. El Nino has leaves turned yellow. He's the last one to go to sleep. Tonite ought to knock him out.

The high temp during the day today was -6 F. with 3 to 4 inches of snow. Tomorrow we're expecting a heat wave with the possibility of it hitting 10 F. and we may get to 16 F on Wed. and Thurs. Well, I'm glad to have some snow on the ground during this cold snap. Hopefully it will be enough to keep the mound system (septic) from freezing up. No fun when that happens. Keep warm everyone.

Just got about 6 inches in my backyard tonight!!
Not that Im happy about that, it took an hour to drive 10 miles home from work tonight!! ( at midnight!! ) where are all the salt trucks?

It's a dwarf citrus tree in a wine barrel. "Bearss Lime" is the variety. The fruit is seedless and makes really, really good gin and tonics.

I grow the dwarfs, Bearss lime, Meyer lemon and a NOID orange in barrels also. In my climate, they must be overwintered indoors. We have had an unusually cold late fall season, with temps as low as 8°F earlier this month. Now that winter is only a couple of day hence, we are under the influence of a huge high pressure system in the Gulf of Mex and daytime highs are in the 70's and overnight lows in the lower 60's! Fog and mist are prevalent, with occasional brief showers. Hope my Hostas don't think spring has arrived and start a new growth cycle!

I just got back from the land of limes that are so great in gin and tonics, and I must admit I was tempted to Just stay and enjoy that existence. Instead I landed in a 5 " snowstorm in MPLS where drivers never seem to learn to drive to conditions and spend most of their time playing bumper cars and worse. I can take the snow and cold, but it's the driving that's so horrible. It's not supposed to get above zero today, but I know my Hosta are safely buried under that snow. The really good part--we have just reached our darkest period and are now adding daylight to our mornings and evenings--Hooray! Mary

December 17th-18th I got almost 27" of snow in 24 hours. Since then I've gotten 16" more. Last night I heard on the local news we (Spokane) are in high red alert and are now considered in a State of Emergency. We are expecting another big snow storm to start tonight and run through tomorrow. It took the city 5 days to plow us out. Plants, what plants, I can barely find my house. Here I was worried that our negative temps for two weeks running were going to wipe out most of my new landscaping and I find right now, I don't really care. Tomorrow I will but not today.

Alexis, I just heard on the news that Spokane has gotten 5 FEET of snow in just December and has more snow coming in. I can't even fanthom (to heck with spellcheck) such a condition. How are you doing thru all this? We are maybe getting 4" today in the Twin Cities--a mere pittance. Mary

Hi Mary, Yes 5' of snow, mostly in the last two weeks. I'm so tired of shoveling. I have berms in my driveway in excess of 8' high. There is just no place to put this snow anymore. Of that 5' we've gotten only about a foot of it has melted. The walkway leading to the front door is lined by 4' walls of snow. Surreal. Twin Cities is looking better all the time. I hope your snow stays light all winter. Alexis
