Blossom end rot prevention...

Last year I had a big problem with blossom end rot on my tomatoes and this year I want to try and nip it in the bud. I've bought soaker hoses for irrigation to try and even out my moisture levels in the soil and i've been saving up egg shells for the past six months to put in the planting hole for some added calcium, but...

I planted all of my tomatoes this past weekend and totally forgot about my eggshell horde. Could I just topdress the eggshells around the tomato plant and get the same effect? Or maybe whizz them up in the blender with some water and hope that gets the calcium down to the roots...?
