blossom end-rot

When I tried to grow tomatoes this year, I had a lovely bout with blossom-end rot. Suggestions have been given to me with how to prevent it. However there's nothing I can really do to prevent it, since when I found out what the cause was, it was already affecting all the tomato plants in my garden.

My question is, does this affect other veggies, such as squash, cucumbers, bell pepper and eggplant? The reason I ask is because they all produce their fruit via setting blossoms.
