Hello Folks,
Very sorry to intrude here but it seems a reasonable way to get a message to a lot of you...our catalog is in the mail and many of you will be receiving it by the end of the week.
I made a major error on the sheet describing our "Early Bird Specials"...Special One shows a deadline of December 17, 2008 and it should be December 17, 2007.
We didn't catch it until we had put out about half the mailing. If any of you are on other lists and feel like mentioning it would be most appreciated.

I got a few that I'll be ordering :-). Empress Wu is one I want for it's size and I seen NC is offering another sport of S&S that will fit nicely in the S&S and it's sports bed I created here :-)..

I am already making a list of what I want. There's some terrific looking plants in there, but I have to narrow the list a bit before I order.

If you figure out how to narrow the list rather than expand it - let me know!

mctavish, there's only one way to reduce your wishlist : buy them all. It's fairly effectif, but not efficient :D

even if you've never ordered from them, if you request one!

Mctavish, I do have a method here. First I highlight all that interest me, then I have to think about if I already own it...Believe me, I have bought dup's the same year--from the same nursery, lol. Then if it's new to the market, I decide if i think it looks too much like something else I already have, and I do the homework. I try to find out parentage if it's not listed, view the registration if one exists,etc. Then I hone in the ones I think will sell out the fastest, and that is what I order in December. I always add to it later on, but I won't pass on free shipping + 10% off. Then the Boys just figure out the shipping on the plants I add on later.
All this is time consuming, but I love every second of it!

Me ole heart when to thumping and I put on my coat and shoes and stumbled out to the mail box (an eight of a mile down the drive). . .dark and raining . . .cough. . cough
Then I stayed up three hours reading it when I should have been sleeping this cold down. . .lol

Well today I sent in enough of an order to get Gunther's Prize free with the 10% from the early bird discount. . THANKS Y'ALL!!

Hey_J your comment brings to mind something that happened to me a long time ago, before online ordering.
I was wanting a Sears catalog and so I called them to request one. The girl on the other end told me I had to place an order before I could get a catalog. I told her, "without a catalog, how would I know what to order"?

But anyway, I did request a catalog from Naylor's and got a response almost immediately saying they would send me one.
I am looking forward to placing my first order with them.

I checked their website and can't find any info on shipping to Canada? Does anyone know if they ship to Canada? I really hope cause they have some beauties I'd love to have.

Sabrina, it's a very safe bet that if any US based nursery does not specifically state they ship outside the US that they don't. There's a fair bit of extra work involved, both for them and for you, with phyto certificates and Agriculture Canada, it's not just that simple, as I'm sure you know. The ones that do will charge for the paperwork involved, which will make it a very expensive exercise to get a handful of plants.

Sebrina, Good news for you - they do ship to Canada. I've been ordering from them for several years. I emailed them a question a couple days ago about the early bird discount. When I got my catalogue, it didn't have that information. They wrote me back immediately and said it was an oversite. Evidentally I'm the only one they have shipped to in Canada and I was lumped with the Europeans that are not offered the discount. They have other Canadian customers but I guess these people have P.O. boxes in the states or have relatives that bring the plants across the border. I'm in BC so I don't know if the postage would be different for you but it's not that much, in fact less for me than from Eastern Canada. The certificate is $35 which is less than any other American nursery and their plants are huge and great and such a variety of new ones. They ship at the end of March which is both good and bad for me. The early shipping means the postage costs are way less because the plants are just forming eyes. They are also not harmed if they end up in Canada Customs (which mine have done once out of three or four times). If they do end up in some random inspection, it takes a couple weeks to get to you instead of a couple days but since it's so early they are fine. You will have to pot them up and keep them in a cool inside place. I was carting plants in and out for weeks last spring but it's worth it because they are usually a bit ahead of the others and you can get your "fix" early! Some of their introductions are wonderful and I always look for a couple to buy. This year War Paint is definately on 'the list'.

I was just thinking to myself , boy what a bunch of Hosta addicts we are here! White Oak & Naylor Creek are the 1st sellers ready w/ the 2008 Hostas lists . Wow, people getting off the sick bed to order? LOL, you guys are just too funny! I am just as guilty... hit my best friend -up for an early b-day present, this morn, I "mentioned " I really would love a H.'Cat& Mouse', but was afraid they'd be sold out by the time I got Christmas hosta money. Well, my dear & wonderful friend ordered 2 , what a sweet heart.:) I feel so blessed to have such a great person in my life . Now if I can get her addicted , I have her starter collection all ready to go for next spring! I have been saving div's for when her bug bites, & she is coming around to commenting "gee that one is really nice"... I think we may have a new forum member soon. Happy wish list making all! The pix are really starting to temp me to towards a woodland setting garden, & I have just the place for it 600 ft. x2 How many hostas do I need ? This is a great place to come too be enabled for sure! I better get some more seeds going to fill in all the new gardens I am planing in my minds eye.~d ;)

Where are you getting the 'Cat and Mouse' from?
I don't need a whole tray of them from Shady Oaks and I didn't see it on Naylor's or White Oaks list.
