Finally! Original Alien Baby!!

For 2+ years, I've wondered if this space hog was ever gonna bloom, and now it's got one flower... but what a flower!

Aside from that, I'm being a bad Gallery contributor because I haven't looked at anyone else's pictures, much less commented on them, and here I am posting.

But you just HAD to see this one! I'm doing this for YOU. LOL

I think so, Rich - my "Seeds I Have" file has become a ridiculous 64 pages (single spaced) long. And I just placed another order during Gardens North 50% off April seed sale (almost missed it - got in the next to last day, I think). Guess I better get busy! Even at the apartment, I managed to start 133 containers. Not all of them have germinated - there's always a percentage for me that don't - but the ones that have will be headed to the new house, along with the dozen or so potted plants I brought with me from MA. I have a really nice beach plum I grew from WSing; have to research where to plant it here so it will survive - it took me nearly 5 years to get one of the seeds to germinate; I don't want to lose it now! One of the great things about this place is that I finally have the space to do different things - my classic herb garden (I'm looking into doing an actual designed one, like maybe a knot garden), tropical-esque near the pool, vegetables, and plenty of room to extend ornamental beds. Can't wait!

Debbie, Thanks, it's nice to be a Mom. =:o) Steve, Yes, I'm impatient when it comes to anything, so waiting 3-4 months to see this baby... oh my! lol. Fred, Thanks. I realize now why rooting hormone is not the best. I cut the tips off other african violet leaves that I dipped in rooting hormone and put them in fresh soil (they had already created roots, but I think it would of been more prohibitive to leave them with the roots they created from the rooting hormone on them then to "start over"). I get some things already mentioned like the white balsamic vinegar, chocolate chips, cereal & the tall bottle of pure maple syrup (it is a good deal but we have to use one half shelf in the fridg just to store it). I also get the mulitgrain baking mix that I use for pancakes, occasionally the cornbread mix, dried fruit, coconut oil since I read about it on here, some herbs & spices. I love their moisturizing cream in the white pump bottle with the hot pink label. Tried their toothpaste, but the kids & husband don't like it. Their graham crackers, BBQ sauce & honey wheat pretzels, as they don't have high fructose corn syrup or partially hydrogenated vegetable oil. My son likes the red pepper spread with eggplant & garlic.

A space hog is a standard cymbidium grown in South Florida (after it had been shipped from CA and sold at a big store)
...and yours is a reasonably sized plant :) Cute flower

Hey, thanks, folks,

Y'all are right - space hog is relative. I'm buying smaller plants these days, the most recent being a Masde floribunda in a 1.5" pot.

Scott, you're great at finding the perfect "visual aid" for the subject.

Kudos to Linda at Seagrove Orchids who coached me along the way. She was patient and full of good info each time I wondered if this plant needed another home.

Jan, thanks for the compliment. Don't tell my plants about your growing conditions, or they might mutiny. :)
