A 'different' way of sprouting tomatoes...

I know you guys will understand (!)...

First off, I've never sprouted anything from seed indoors before, but I am determined to have something to give away at the Plant Swap this year!

Secondly, I had nothing to provide consistent bottom heat, so I had to improvise :~)

I have two little 12-pack seed starter trays that I put Jiffy starter mix in, and then I planted my seeds and covered them with the clear lids. I then put water into the bottom of a large roasting pan, inserted a very small aquarium/fish bowl heater into it and FLOATED my trays on top of that. It's been kept at a very nice 70 degrees and they've now begun to sprout!

I think I'll give them one more day like that to get the rest up and out. Then, I have a fairly sunny window sill to take them to...do I lift the tops then? wait a bit longer? I know when they have 2 sets of leaves I should transplant their tiny selves into the next container (I think?)...hold me by the hand here and tell me what comes next, please....I want them to make it!

Thanks :~) Sharon
