Finally a tomato sprout!

Jeepers normally they start to sprout around 4/7. Been waiting and waiting for one to show up. 3 little Prue spouts showed up yesterday afternoon. None in the morning. Yes checked them twice yesterday. It hit 82 here yesterday so figured some thing had to show up. Over a dozen jugs planted in different tomato seeds.

Prefer to hold off on the annuals till one tomato sprout shows up. Two years ago already had some planted by 4/18 and being protected from late frosts.

Most of my garden will be in tomato plants. So off to the races to put last loads of compost on the tomato areas and guess some bone meal.

Anyone else getting some decent sprouts now?

Oh been quite busy the little hens I have been sitting on eggs and one peep after another are hatching. Baby chicks are way way cute.

I picked up a couple of tomato sprouts yesterday - I think. For the first time ever, I believe I had a bag of potting soil that might have had some weed seeds in it, so I'll have to wait a few days to be sure. But I'm pretty sure these are tomato sprouts - I have Balconi Red & Ildi. Lots more to go!

I'd say "naught ". :-) You'll see that as time goes by, the leaves will grow, the stem will elongate like it's supposed to. It'll be pretty.

I planted out about 30 jugs at my sons school and about the same number in my backyard. The school jugs used Promix, I used a different brand (available at my local Menards) to do mine because I couldnt find the promix initially. As far as I can tell the potting medium, and any microclimate differences, are the only differences between the two sites. They are even using my same seeds! The school has sprouts on spinach, lettuce and more. I have ZERO sprouts in any of my containers, including traditional early risers, like mache. How are the other Z5ers doing? Am I alone in my sproutless sadness?

Thanks! I followed the directions on the print-out that came with the seeds. It said to lay the seeds on top of a fast-draining cactus mix and then top with fine sand. It's only a thin layer of sand on top of Kellogg's cactus mix. Also, I started them too early, still too cold at first. I was too excited to wait when the seeds arrived. It's a perfect time to try again so I would love to get some advice on cultivation and other seed sources. Right now, they get about an hour of early morning sun and then bright indirect light the rest of the day. The container took in a bunch of water in the last rain and after that they sprouted. How wet should I keep it in there?
