Liquid Fence Deer & Rabbit Repellent ?
Comments (14)Sick and tired of deer eating all of the veggies I have worked hard to plant, I am currently experimenting with a few things. I have found the following to be successful: --LiquidFence works, but you have to spray every other day, contrary to the label recommendations. --Expensive cologne/perfume misted lightly over the outer stems also works if you spray every day, but in addition to being expensive, you must mist every day. --I have devised a diabolic concoction that will repel deer and every other form of grazing wildlife, but you must use it only on the leaves and stems of the plant (NOT ON THE FRUIT!!!) Here's the recipe: In a blender, liquefy the following: 2-3 cups water 5-6 fresh Habanero peppers (hottest peppers known to man) 9-10 fresh garlic cloves 1-2 Tbsp vinegar 1 Half cup fish sauce (available at Asian markets - smells horrific!!) After liquefying all ingredients, strain out all pulp from the peppers and garlic, and pour into a spray bottle. Bingo!! Use gloves when spraying on plants -- this mixture is vile, and will cause extreme pain if accidently rubbed into the eyes or mouth. It's nasty stuff, but is guaranteed 100% effective. Application every 3-4 days (or longer) should be sufficient....See MoreLiquid Fence
Comments (4)Thank you for mentioning the Critter Ridder! I read this post this morning, went to the website and saw ACE Hardware carries it. As luck would have it, I drove right past an ACE while I was out running errands, turned the car around and stopped in - and they had it! I'm going to sprinkle it around my coneflowers, the resident woodchuck did a number on them last summer....See MoreWinter Deer Repellant Sprays?

Comments (22)I've been battling deer for the past 20 years in NJ, Long Island, and PA, and I can say that the first really effective deer repellant I've come across is LIQUID FENCE. The only other product that comes near it is Hinder. Believe me, I've tried all of them, even concentrated garlic tablets. There are a lot of "snake oil" products on the market for deer control. Most of them are completely ineffective, a few are slightly effective (if you want to spend a day each week spreading it). Here's the skinny on deer prevention (and I recommend, as I said, Liquid Fence--yes, it stinks! that's why it works!) As a member of the American Rose Society, I received several years ago some information about their deer prevention program at the test gardens in Shreveport, LA. Mix your repellant (preferably L.Fence) @ one-to-one rate with water, place in plastic container covered with lid, punch holes in the sides (before filling, obviously), and place at 10-15 foot intervals along the border of the protected area. This way, the repellant will not evaporate over time. It will be effective regardless of rain. Remember: the key to deer control is to be PERSISTENT....See Morejust1morehosta
