Let's see your pics of Guacamole,a sport of Fragrant Bouquet. This is the only pic I have. It is directly in front of the bird bath. Phil

I have 5 of these planted along my driveway and they fill the air in July/August with sweet scent.

I can't decide where to put her just yet... So I placed her by U. Albomarginata for now. She'll get the most direct morning and early afternoon sun there right now. But once Albomarginata unfurls, she'll overwhelm her, so I will have to move her before then. I'll decide on a good place later. Probably in front by Whee and Minuteman and Orange Marmalade, I am thinking.

Gosh Ken, I feel bad after you worked up a great passion about getting after those voles....I just went out to walk around checking things out and came around the corner of the garage and all of a sudden my eye landed on my 'Guacamole' Hosta !! LOL Wow. I was dumbfounded. There it was, fully leafed out! I can't tell you how many times I have gone over to that location and looked for any sign of that Hosta. I had evidently lost my bearings because I moved a Chrysanthemum out of there early this spring and the Hosta was peeking out from under a Viburnum carlesii that had evidently grown forward more than I realized. It also had a very similar color to the carlesii. Maybe it was hidden until the leaves unfurled. Aren't these happy surprises in the garden great! lol Now I will have to move it in the fall and maybe divide it in two since I like it so much. Thank you all for commiserating! :-)

Congratulations, MrGary.....you've done an outstanding job. I am saving your post to my clippings so I can go back to it easily for reference. I think the one you cannot remember might be Alex Summers. It sure looks like mine. I won't picture it here, but mine is about the same age as yours....I'm just a sophomore with hosta myself, so our plants are "of an age." I'm pleased to see you are growing Banyai's Dancing Girl. It looks almost like Blue Cadet, and it is a very inexpensive choice to mass plant. Van Wade suggests it as an edger if you ever need such a feature. I edge with liriope here in zone 9a. But I am making a collection of the smaller blue hosta such as BC and BDGirl since I don't like being redundant and I like variety. Things such as Drummer Boy, Dear Hearts, Happy Hearts, Cheatin Heart (golden), Golden Tiara, Grand Tiara, Twist of Lime, Lemon Lime, Feather Boa....well, I fibbed, I just like the smaller mounding hosta blue or gold or green! Thanks for treating us to a beautiful garden.

Way cool, Jan. Oh yes, HL and MyHostas.be are both fantastic sources. And I love the Mickfield Hosta leaf photos, plain and simple. And Don Rawson's lists....always keep the Fragrant-flowered hosta list out when I am shopping. Hostaholics are fortunate to have such great references....not counting the Hostapedia and other printed texts as well, including the AHS stuff.

Love that pic, bkay! Here's mine, just planted in my new "Hosta Walk' garden this June. She looked this pretty all summer and is just now starting to succumb to the colder temps.

By the way, the FAQ page lists which hostas are "Hosta of the Year" but who is the supreme being that makes that determination, and why do they get to have all the fun?

I love this hosta. But each year more and more of it reverts to its all green form. Last year I cut out 6-8 of 14 eyes and this year I have maybe 2 eyes left that hadn't reverted.

Is this typical or do I have a bad egg?

I didn't get any great pictures of Guacamole this year. I borrowed one from my sisters garden. Her specimen is spectacular. I see that we are going to have to divide the "Fried Green Tomatoes" part out next spring. It lives in a barrel and has grown like a weed in her perfect Pacific Northwest Climate.

Mine turns all green late in the summer. Right now, you can barely see the color contrast and only one one or two leaves. In the spring, it's back to it's great color.

The Guacamole belonging to McTavish's sister has done what your's has done, so it may not be uncommon. I'm not sure. Maybe someone who knows will chime in.

Another great fragrant variety that does real well in the south, it also gets almost green down here in summer as well

Hmmmm, well, I love Guacamole as well. It tended to darken up, and the leaf contrast almost disappeared. However, not all ONE SHADE of green. I think it is very different from my Fried Green Tomatoes. Love the light green/gold middles and the darker green eye liner around the margins Beautiful.

Hostanista, I think it is the Hosta Growers who name the HOTY.

I would be remiss if I did not remind you of the benefits of joining the American Hosta Association. Many on the forum are members, and they know the benefits more than I. This is my first year as a member, having joined around March 2012.

Not too many months back, we voted on the forum for our favorite large/medium/smalls and blues as well as greens. Maybe the voting will continue (once we recover from exhaustion over the political voting) for the other kinds of hosta. Soon? Please?
