I am better at asking questions than answering them. I don't know about nematodes. If you would mention your general location, someone near you may have a more specific answer.

I had success with Jubilee and Early Girl. I used to spray flowers, so now since I consider my ground contaminated, I grow in pots. That could be your answer also if your ground is contaminated with nematodes.

Also a Master Gardener in your area might be able to give you some answers about nematodes.

I remember Gary (Duck Creek Gardens) mentioning that he had a tomato that was N resistant called Nemared. I think this was an Oklahoma intro. You might check with him. He is up in the Tulsa area, though, but it might be worth a drive.

Look for tomatos marked with an "N" following the name, e.g., VFN would mean verticillium, fusarium, and nematode resistant. I don't or haven't read of any heirlooms that are resistant, but some of the old timers around the forum may know of varieties that are.

I think Paula (P-Mac) may also have the same issues as you with root knot nematode soil and she may come in here with some suggestions on variety.

Yes there are indeed nematode resistant variities such as PW but unfortunitly the only real ways to deal with the microscopic buggers are fumigation of the ground , solarizing the soil(baking it under black plastic over the summer)or growing a grass crop in the plot for a year or more.The last two opitons mean no gardening in that plot for a year or 2. As I mentioned this year I have a new plot far from the nemtodes so I am really am looking for imput as to what varieties others have had luck with. Thanks to all replies.

We've discussed RKNs here a lot during the last few months because Jo discovered RKNs were causing her problems with various plants last summer.

I've linked a previous thread where we discussed specific tomatoes known to have tolerance to RKNs. I listed as many hybrids as I could think of. With heirlooms, none of them are tested and labeled (since no one holds marketing rights to them and would profit from the testing, no one does it), so you just find them by trial and error. I don't have nematodes here because I have clay soil, so I can't help you there via personal experience.

for the thread. Alas Nematode resistent toms only buy you a season or two and the worms will go for a lot of other veggies like cucs and squash.

Fortunitly the new plot is hundreds of feet away across two ditches and the road. I am co-oping with my neighbors who have a far larger space but not enough time. Now I can let my plot rest and starve the buggers out. Time is the only real ally. And yes I am careful not to cross contaminate with tools and such. Boy it is sure hard to resist that empty dirt.
