Already Found Cabbage Worms on the Broccoli

Okiedawn OK Zone 7

Yesterday I noticed tiny holes in the leaves of several broccoli and cabbage plants. Checking the undersides of the leaves, I found tiny green Imported Cabbageworms already hard at work. I scraped them off the leaves and squished them, and then sprayed all the broccoli, cabbage, mustard and kale plants in the garden with neem.

Apparently the plants, birds and butterflies aren't the only early signs of spring. The pests are early too.

I did see a Cabbage White butterfly flying around the back pasture earlier this week, so I wasn't really surprised to find its offspring on my plants. This is the main pest of these crops in my garden. I seldom see the diamondback moths and cabbage loopers here.
