Question on Siberian Iris

Hi Kids,

I need some help with my memory...

I just dug up two clumps of Siberian Iris from a women who posted them for free on Craigs list. But, I'm not ready to plant them yet. What is the best way to keep them in good health until I can get them back into the ground? I know from past experience that they can withstand almost anything. I need to divide them up into smaller clumps. What is the best way to do this and how do I keep them happy. I think I remember keeping some for over a month in a tub of water. I cleaned off the roots with water, divided them and left them in water until I was ready to re-plant. I'm I remembering that correctly?

Thanks for any help you can give me. I would like to go back for more but first I need to take care of what I already have.
