Stinkhorn fungus?
Comments (3)Jean, you would think so. I had always heard so. BUT, I find it very peculiar that they would both, at five years old and never having had any indication of allergies before, come down with this within four days of each other. Too coincidental for me. Too coincidental for the vet, too. Allergies were the explanation when the first one got it, and I bought it. But when I had the second one at the vet's four days later, he was more than a little puzzled. I have been on a fungus witch hunt ever since. :)...See MoreStinkhorn question.
Comments (3)Well for one thing they are very weird and they truely stink to high heaven. I know they help break down the mulch and I am all with that but I wanna enjoy my jungle not hide in the house :-). And they attract all of the flies which then spread the darn things. And now they are "popping" up in other beds. The ones in the main bed are very near and even under the new drip hose we put down recently. Hopefully it dries out enough for these things to go away. Thanks Paula...See MoreNasty Mushrooms in the garden! What are they?
Comments (4)Oh,stinkhorns are horrible! I have the orange ones. I think they came in with some mulch I put down last year. You need to dig around the stinkhorn and find the underground tuber. Use a plastic bag or disposable gloves to remove all the bits of the tubers. According to our extention service, there is nothing you can do to prevent it. You can spray the area with a fungicide, but it probably won't do anything for the stinkhorn. Just keep up with removing them. You will be able to smell them before you can see them. They are really driving me crazy. Linda Leaf...See MoreMushroom Risotto-Porcini Mushrooms-Truffle Oil
Comments (35)That sounds like a great place, and very nice people, Beachlily. I bet they'd love to hear from you. There's a couple of videos out there (at least) showing some techniques to making risotto. One is by Mario Batali, (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/02/dining/02mini.html?_r=1) and he's making asparagus risotto. He doesn't actually stir all that much. The other is Tom Colicceo, making roasted tomato risotto. I made that the other night, and it was quite good. In this video he shows his way of telling when the risotto is done. The only change I made to his recipe was to use vegetable broth. I'll put a link to that video below, but I don't know how to do more than one link, so I just included the address for the Batali video above. ) (By the way, I stumbled across that website when I did a search for tomato risotto [I have an abundance of tomatoes right now]. It looks like a pretty cool website, but I haven't had or taken the time to explore it further.) Sally...See Moreerika2
