Pin Oak and Hosta... are they compatible?

I am considering starting a new terraced bed for hosta next to my driveway and a Pin Oak would be smack dab in the middle of it. Currently there is just a large 6-8' diameter mulch circle with sparse grass beyond.

There is also a problem (besides the oak) in that my neighbors downspout empties just uphill from here and washes away a little bit of my native, not-so-lovely clay soil each time it rains (hence the need for a terraced bed). I do know that I will have to provide improved soil for the new babies if I go ahead with this project.

The real questions is whether or not this will be a battle of tree roots vs hosta roots or does the Pin Oak coexist well with hosta? I already know how horrible it is to see hosta struggle with being near maple trees and I don't want to send any to their deaths by choosing a poor location.

Do you all think this is a go or no-go? This spot gets morning sun, but filtered light the rest of the day.
