Identifying Wild Flowering Plant, Maybe a Weed, But Pretty!

Hi,

This is my very first post, so forgive me if I am doing this in the wrong place, or not "quite right".

I am eager to get help to identify a pretty grass/wildflower/weed that is growing prolifically along the edge of a gravel road near my home in Errington, on Vancouver Island (have also spotted them in Nanaimo). The flowers are fuzzy, soft, round or slightly ovate, in a very muted shade of pink, and borne on several stems of each plant. The plants grow very crowded together, so seem lusher en masse than they actually are individually. They bear no thorns, nor are they clover or thistle. The "flowers" themselves dry beautifully.

If these could be identified, it would help me to know if I could (or SHOULD!) propagate or transplant some to an area of my property suitably gravelly. IÂd appreciate any and all help or information you can offer. I will try to upload photos to my page of these plants.

For others reading this thread, I was thinking of Trifolium arvense, rabbitfoot clover - which is what it turned out to be (photos were posted elsewhere).

You're lucky. I tried growing it last year and had terrible luck with it. It does seem to be a spreader, though. I had it in the back yard in two spots, both did poorly, failing to thrive and finally dying. This year I found a seedling in the front yard (100 feet away with a house in between)in stone mulch. I'm leaving it there to see what it does. Maybe neglect and the heat off the stones will be a charm!

The picture that says "are they phlox or something else?" looks a lot like Physostegia / Obedient plant to me. whoever buys my place will probably scalp the entire 26 garden beds i have nurtured for the past 12 years and put in hardscape or a pool. breaks my heart, but nothing i can do about it Roxanna, there are things you can do before you leave your gardens - you can open your gardens to gardening friends or neighbors for give-aways, donate plants to a local or charity plant sale, sell or give away on Craigslist or Freecycle. People will even come and dig stuff up for you. Better than those lovely plants being scalped!

I agree with Roselee. I think we are dealing with 2 different plants. Pay attention to the type of leaves of the branch with the flower (MG)...they are not tri-foliated like the branches with the beans (Hyacinth bean?). Also, MG's do not bear that type of pod (see link below). My guess is that a wild morning glory was growing on a either a hyacinth vine or a regular bean plant.
