Do you keep records?
Comments (11)What I wrote was totally in fun - not serious at all, of course, but I do have to say that I'm almost always unwilling to just give up on a plant and toss it. Usually, if something has gone wrong I (personally speaking) consider it grower error and need to find out where the error was and correct it. For me - it usually involves my having been lax and letting repot time slip past w/o the 'repot' part of 'repotting time' taking place, so the plant has to go through another entire growth cycle under extremely root-bound conditions. I rarely have any problems growing something that has room for roots to run; ...... and then too, I've got that whole bluff/bluster/threaten thing perfected to help keep any stubborn or aberrant plants in line, so ....... ;o) Al...See Morekeeping records
Comments (5)komi That might work but over the years I've found that many werre tagged incorrectly even when I first brought them home. I usually just accepted the tag as correct as it's almost impossible to do this with books but with the internet it's a different story. You can get instant pix of countless types without a lot of work lol. Still I find great variation in pix of the same species. Most of the replanting has been done at least on the seep wall and a "map "is fairly easy as you can look straight on to the area. Many of my old plants are still in tree fern pots which will eventually be moved to multi-specie hanging setups either with natural limbs or PVS pipe. I have kept notebooks over the years and i laugh as i read through them.Either A I can't read my own writing.B I used so much abbreviation it makes no sense or C I can read it .it makes sense but I'm almost certain it's wrong lol I don't mind working with cultural notes but again this requires keeping records . i'm a grower not a Botanist lol. Oh well ,they're just as beautiful even without names and I'm an old man .Too late to change my habits. Thanks again for the suggestions gary...See MoreRecord keeping.
Comments (8)It's my first year growing Rudbeckia hirta, so I'm anxious to see if it overwinters. The other rudbeckias I had last year. The hibiscus plants are hardy. All the currently blooming coreopsis came from one plant last summer. I divided it into 12 pieces this spring. I'm amazed at how fast it spreads. The castor beans and most of the salvias are annuals. So I collect lots of seed. There really is a lot of variety out there, thanks to wintersowing. Last year, I had a few cosmos, a couple roses, and some black eyed susans. This year, HUGE difference....See MoreHow Do You Keep Your Garden Records?
Comments (12)Oh that's very nice Brenda and Pat:) That's about 20 daylillies lining the front between the garden area and the grass behind the different bulbs dieing out. There are 9 more roses that you can't even see behind the dragon and the redwood tree. I've still need to push some more of that walk on bark up behind the climbers to the fence and cover the clay and then get a couple loads of mulch and cover all this area. I plan to do that next weekend on payday. Most of these are the larger mini floras and floribundas and HTs showing here and yes it'll look way different in a few months and next year at this time way different. Especially once the climbers start filling in. I'm not really done and this will be an on going process too, I think a garden is always an evolving process:) The next 3 roses arrive on Friday I hear, so I'm taking a break until then! You just don't think you have nice gardens and I hear you talk about your plants and I don't believe a word of it! I've been yearning all fall and winter to have a small part of what you have, LOL* It'll be years before mine looks very lush. I still would enjoy pics, I love to see pics of flowers and plants....See MorePieter zone 7/8 B.C.
