Yet Another Video (this time a professional one) of Hosta Hills

Though this one from a local 'low-power' TV station made the awful mistake of ID'ing us as Hosta Hill (oops the beginning of these gardens properly ID's it as Hosta HillS gardens, us.

When we first named this place we were too nuubies to know about Mr. Schmid's place in GA, or perhaps we would have chosen a more unique name.

The only reason I finally agreed to be in this vid is because they had some schedule problem and couldn't do it when the REAL hostaholic here, my wife Bevie, could do it.

So you have to put up with my rants, perhaps about time?

As those who have visited here know, Hosta HillS Gardens is appropro, as is my monicker as the Hosta Hillbilly, that is if you know the entire history of the term 'hillbilly'.

I can only comment on the Bluestar RNB, which seems not to be a front-runner for you. But as you ask about the hot doors . . . it just has not been any sort of problem for us. The door gets very warm under certain conditions, and you might be surprised if you were to fall against it with palms flat. Surprised, but not injured at all -- our door just doesn't get hot enough to burn somebody. Moreover, if I'm baking, or roasting (or braising, etc.) while working at the range, I'm not especially aware of heat coming through the door at all. And the oven door handle stays just fine -- don't need a potholder to open the door at all. Our two younger kids had just turned 9 when we bought the range and I'd had similar questions, and had them resolved before we bought place our order. They've never had problems getting getting burnt, and neither has our small dog. Of course other kids may be younger, and things happen, but I don't see a danger from the door itself. With our range, a little kid could fall against the glass door, or poke it with a finger while looking at cookies, and not be injured at all. Startled, perhaps, but not injured. The far more significant risk seems to me to be common to any range at all: little kids need to know that a stove is not a toy, but something to be careful about. They need to know that they oughtn't to go crashing into it or leap up and grab things. They need to know that whether you buy a BS, or CC, or NXR, or GE, or a 20 year-old whirlpool from a garage sale. An open flame is an open flame; a hot coil is a hot coil; and a pot full of boiling water can scald anybody.

"Thanks, Ken. especially if you get to it before I do. I can't imagine my attention span is longer than yours. You callin' that tool shed a "blob"? right over the crest of the hill is a church, affiliated with the tool shed. It has been strangely silent all these past 3 months. In the past gardening on Sunday mornings to "Amazing Grace" was rather nice. I started transplanting the perennial geraniums about 4 or 5 years ago. I bought "spessart" at least 15 years ago. It has covered bare ground in a few locations, beginning in my "front" garden which was an inhospitable desert of Norway maples and their matted roots. In a few short years it covered at least 20 x 20 area. I just kept breaking it up and moving to other places where I needed weed suppression. The magenta "sanguineum" was a gift. It really keeps giving. Ingerswen's variety is sturdy and a good pink. and a couple of inches taller. So it adds a little 'wave' to a planting. I've only recently figured out how to use it effectively. I'm not sure karmina or biviko could compete among these ruffians. They'd be good on that small slope someone mentioned. One or other of those is not full sun tolerant; in my garden It roasted in full afternoon sun here. Rabbits have never touched the big roots. I think the aromatic foliage may deter them. They've eaten Rozanne, magnificum, and some more delicate ones in early spring. No fencing. In other areas of the garden, I pour "Rabbit Scram" over columbines, young tender hostas and more delicate trailing geraniums. Deer are not a problem yet. Yet is the operative word. Anna, nice to meet you! Dee's answer is correct; I was responding to the other post. But this is also a good stand alone.Good information can get buried among other responses to a post. II don't this needs a before picture to be helpful but since you asked..... I don't know what you mean about looking for congratulations. Would you like to say more so I understand? The hillside was never planted , Weed trees came in, buckthorn, garlic mustard, lesser celandine, bedstraw were happy there. When we moved in 25 years ago I had the energy to weed a few days a summer. Once I newspapered the whole slope. Two artifical knees later and chronic back pain ended such efforts. Throughout this post I've misspelled "rodotypos" It's not well known, but it is the right plant for the right place. Once you have one you'll get several seedlings a year. Now those are cheap plants.

Thanks for asking Debra! 🥰Zoe ‘s leg is healing marvelously, she’s running in the paths I had to dig in the backyard for my short legged dogs. She’s really fussy about what she will eat because the tumor is taking up precious space in her tummy. I hope she makes it til spring, she likes basking in the sun. She is still a happy girl now. Enjoyed the video ... and those views of "drifts of hostas" to use your term. You have a wonderful garden! You have more than 10 times as many unique varieties as I do - I'm just a piker in comparison!

The pleasure of your visit yesterday was all ours.

I hope my switch of hamburgers for hotdogs was O.K., heheheh.

Now today I worked again on the grill, and if today's fix sticks, I can return to hamburgers and steaks with the grill...

I look forward to seeing you and Dan's Hostas early next year!

You have a magnificent garden, loved seeing all the big mature plants. Had to smile at the red flags, I have those dotted around as a reminder to give things extra water. What are yours for?

Don't you have trouble with tree roots? How do you keep them out of your hostas?

Envious of your local forecast. We're getting day after day of upper 90s. Also of the kayaks, they are such fun!

Nice to see the famous Bevie,in the flesh,so to speak! It was a nice look at your gardens,though very short. I alwys thought pines sucked all the water out of the soil,but you must water a lot. Nice gardens! Phil,on a hillside in NC.
