Picking up lants!

Hello! Was wondering if anyone out there in Oklahoma is near Stillwater. I wanted to get some plants from Bustani Plant Farm in Stillwater and they are no longer shipping. I am looking someone who might live near them to pick up some plants and ship them to me. I will pay you!! Hope someone can help. I am in Florida. Thanks

I don't live close to Stillwater and not sure who does.

I heard that Steve decided to quit shipping and wondered why... Any body hear why?

I would think that would be a very lucrative part of the business. Back years ago when I was growing all kinds of unusual perennials and natives, I couldn't get people to drive 20 miles to my place, so don't know how he will make it.

My catts always seem to bloom that way! My favorites are the ones that send up psbs from anywhere off their rhyzome, then giving me a nice balanced blooming plant. Right now I have the common Maikai Mayumi blooming beautifully with 12 spikes and they are scattered throughout the plant making it a nice centerpiece. But a dozen others in bloom are they way you describe your plant. My huge white catt I love not matter how it blooms and this year once again, it's hanging out of the pot! LOL! Have you posted a pic of your bloomer in the gallery? I'll have to check. Happy growing. Sheila :)

What is Japanese Super Flower? The official frost date is May 15th. However, if you don't believe the ground will freeze again and it is on its way to warming up, go ahead and plant at least the lilium and gladiolas. I've already planted a lot of my dahlias and some are leafing. As far as the Elephant Ear is concerned, someone else will have to say how much coolness they can take. Even if we do get some frost, if you plant the tubers, corms or whatever several inches down, most likely they won't get hit by frost anymore but they can get tipped. It is your decision to make...I would at least pot them up and get them started. That way, you can bring them in at night if the temps go low again. Plus the longer you wait, the greater your chance of having dead, rotten or dried out bulbs.

GIVING FREE: I have excess of Sweet Potato slips, planted in small containers. The varieties I have are: California purple (purple skin and flesh, Japanese- purple skin white flesh and the American- reddish skin and flesh. I am located in South Dallas area near I-20/I-35. If you are in DFW area, you are welcome to come and get it. Please send me a DMto set up time to pick up. On another forum, which I probably shouldn't link here since GW doesn't like for us to link competing forums, Steve Owens said that the in-store business was growing at a very rapid rate, much more so than the online business (which was showing continued growth, but not as much as the in-store business), so they had decided to focus only on the in-store business.

I have noticed some other small plant companies are dropping the shipping portion of their business too. I read somewhere that it has to do with USPS shipping rates, which continue to increase and especially for anything that is "oversized".

Also, the union that represents postal workers has stated publically that the USPS gives volume shipping discounts to the really huge companies and that the small firms, who are not granted those same high-volume shipping discounts, are at a competitive disadvantage, which is causing some of them to stop shipping plants too. That union has been urging the USPS to stop giving the big guys discounts that are not equally extended to the little guys, but have not been successful yet.
