Oh, Don, Dummy me...I went back looking for the Stained Glass Hosta. Then, it dawned on me it was the window. Duh..

Hope you get better quickly, Jim. DH is struggling with bronchitis he can't shake. Glad you mentioned the problem with levofloxicin, as he said he was just about to go out and dig some hosta (mine are all in pots), but he had to take care of his tendons ;-).

We miss your stories.

Jim, it's sooo sad that your gardening is curbed, albeit temporarily. Take heart! The better care you take now, the sooner you'll be up and at it again. On a positive note, you get the rare pleasure of JUST ENJOYING viewing your gardens, breathing in all that beauty that you've created. Enjoy the respite while you can.

P.P.S. Jim, I just wanted to mention an interesting observation I made....during the past few months I've either received divisions or made divisions of my own hosta plants. Instead of hurrying and planting them, I deliberately left these cuttings/divisions in pails of water to bide their time while I figured out where best to site them. I hosed off all soil and debris prior to them going in the pails. Every two or three days, I change the water and check on the roots. The pails are under a small tree where it's shady, some filtered sun so the water stays fresh and cool.

I found that by leaving them in water for a minimum of one to two weeks that the roots grew very quickly....original roots and beautiful, new thick white roots. In addition, several new shoots developed right around the crown during that time, and lower, in between the root mass, there are also new shoots developing. I'm thrilled about this because the plant is multiplying more quickly in this fashion than it would have had I planted it right away. It happens to be a Guardian Angel hosta...I finally planted it in a pot today, with a new green shoot poking up....and a few more still coming..too exciting! It's a bit more work but so worth it.

It reminds me of spring when the shoots are emerging. The main observation is the speed by which the new shoots develop and grow in water!!!
I just had to share with someone, so I guess you're it! :-)

I love the woodland setting outside all your windows. I especially love the scene outside the window with the stained glass above it. The floral stained glass coupled with the blooming hostas is really striking. Thanks for sharing.

sorry to read that you have pneumonia, and are not able to work in the garden. I once had a pneumonia for weeks, was difficult to shake it and people in the office then thought I only had a cold. I hope you will be better soon. You certainly have nice gardens and windows, congratulations!
Yes, it is not good to be inside when you could do so much outside. I know, I have a bad knee for weeks , and then again bumped it. So I am inside and resting to let the knee get better. I have to take 1 Aspirin a day for years, and now any bump leads to blood under skin, not good. So be careful, I feel with you!

Don't want to be responsible for snapping any of your tendons or worsening your general condition, Jim, BUT....If you're THAT bored out of your skull and NEED to get in the garden for just a little while...I COULD place a small hosta order...just sayin...a couple fragrants, maybe 'Carriage Wheels'...'Avalanche' looks pretty cool...'Party Favor' is interesting...does it get very big...?

and commenting on the hostas (not sales)...

I had Avalanche on my original list, but my updated maps don't show it... I appear to have lost it... the combination of a major computer breakdown that permanently damaged my database files - and damaged the backup files when I tried to open them (learned a lesson there!) and a hazy growing season in 2011 when I was recovering from surgery and underestimated how much effect six months on narcotics could do to what used to be a pretty good memory... well, let's just say a few have escaped and my list needs some work.

Carriage Wheels is one of those hostas that friends don't let friends have... its origin is out of Golden Nugget which is out of Frances Williams... for me it burned worse than FW and was a weak grower to boot - one of the first I removed from my collection. (now somebody can show us a great Carriage Wheels and prove me wrong - I just decided life is too short for sieboldiana burn concerns every year...)

I have two medium-sized green hostas that are outstanding because they have very neat symetrical leaves with good rippled edges - Party Favor and Stirfry.

PF is a Solberg entry from Donahue Piecrust (so montana genes) and Akebono. It has grown slowly and not gotten above a medium for me...

I like PF - but I think Stirfry (listed as a selfed Holly's Honey, which is itself listed as unknown heritiage) is a superior plant due to its sparkly-shiny character, clearly carried over from a ventricosa heritage.

Have to say, Jim, that the pictures in HLibrary of Stirfry have a great similarity to my Holly's Dazzler, with the ruffled edges and the cupie doll flip on the tip of the leaf. I just took a picture this morning of the Stirfry I got from you. It is doing nicely, and is standing tall.
