Hey daylily fans!

My sister recently told me about two great daylily farms near central Ohio.

The first is the delightfully named "Valley of the Daylilies", near Lebanon, Ohio.

I haven't been there, but I have to say, I'm impressed with an outfit that not only has an official "garden dog" (Nate) and a daylily apparently named for said dog!

The other one is Top O'Hill daylily farm in Oxford, which boasts 15-hundred varieties.

In addition to the custom orders, every year they apparently pick 12 varieties they feel a worth special notice and offer a discount package: 3 plants of each cultivar for $50 (total of 36 plants.) The "Rainbow Collection" this year is Siloam Bo Peep, Little Greenie, Siloam Ethel Smith, Winsome Lady, Chicago Rosy, Joan Senior, Mary Todd, King Haiglar, Egyptian Spice, Bally Hoo, Coppersmith Orange, and Oriental Ruby.

The other real attraction of this place is the "dig your own special": you dig your own "clump" of daylilies from specified planting beds. There are approximately 15 - 25 plants per clump for just $10.00 per clump.

My sister and I, and maybe my niece and brother-in-law, are driving out there this Saturday to get my mother a belated birthday gift -- sounds like it could be a lot of fun!

So, if you're not doing anything this weekend -- come dig with us!
