Frogs Frogs Frogs!

I just started hearing frogs this weekend for the first time! Yeah! I'm so excited that it is finally "spring". I never think it is really spring till I start hearing the frogs again.

And of course I saw the robbins have been back a couple of weeks as well...

And the salmonberries are blooming, and the native bleeding hearts are coming up... as well as the skunk cabbage and false lily of the valley!

Anyone else hearing frogs? Or admiring other signs of spring? We won't even talk about all the cherry trees and forsythias that are blooming! I'm so happy.

Haven't heard any frogs yet. We have a wetland near us and they make an amazing and wonderful racket when they get going. I leave for work around 6:15 each morning. Just in the last few days I have been greeted by song birds. Makes me want to turn around and stay to work in the garden.

I have a treefrog in my garden who is confused and calls all through summer, fall and winter but I think the Arctic blast we had in February has discouraged him. This was the second year that he keep on calling after Spring had sprung. Haven't heard him in a few weeks. Hope he is OK, kind of fun to have a frog croaking at Christmas....

Looks to me like a regular green frog... not a bullfrog as the ridge of skin goes straight down the back. I see no evidence of the spots that a leopard frog would have. Bullfrogs and green frogs can be hard to tell apart if you can't get close - but leopard frogs and green frogs are quite different so they're not as usually mistaken for one another. He's cute!

They are just there to have their meals. It will be irritating but they don't do any harm to you. I used to do the same, spray chemicals or bug sprays, but one day my daughter thought me something which I forgotten long back. She is studying in Sunnybrook School in Ontario, and they had a class one day about the frogs, tree frogs etc. That day she made me realize that these frogs and toads are important for proper bio balance. Stop hurting them and try simple steps like those mentioned by Walker.

We have a big pond full of frogs. It is lovely to hear them again. Here soon they will get appallingly loud as they try to find mates.

We did have one lone frog out right before that heavy freeze. But one frog doens't really count. They can get fooled now and then into waking early.

It has turned into a regular chorus. I just love living near the water.

They've been croaking here more this week, but I was hearing a few in Feb. and I saw the first eggs a few weeks ago. They went through a freeze, so I don't know if that affected them or not...time will tell. I don't think there will be as many as the last couple of years since we kept the water from collecting on top of the pool this winter. We heard some on and off throughout the winter.
I noticed the Indian Plums were starting to bloom in the woods.

Heard Pacific tree frog a few times right through winter, but don't remember pond frogs. During mild weather a few days ago heard birds I didn't expect yet, although I've never written down when each species is first heard year after year.

I first heard peepers Wed night when it was starting to snow. They were really loud Thursday night....what a great combo: peepers, daffodils, and forsythia in the snowy moonlight! Peepers were silent last night....it must have dropped below the magic temperature. Skunk cabbage looks good along snowy creek banks. We had about 8" with about 3" left after yesterday's melt. Strange to have the only significant snow of the year in March! jwww
