Raising potted Hostas off the ground

I'm a newbie in Zone 9 with all of my small collection of hostas in pots. Yesterday I spent time moving most of them to accommodate the loss of a huge shade tree.

Now I'm wondering how much protection putting them up on stands and various tables etc. will do to keep the slugs and snails from decimating their leaves? I know snails will climb, but what about the slugs? Right now I have them on a collection of old stools, wooden milk cases, and old stepladders, but I'm wondering if you think this will help in the struggle against lacy leaves....

I have three that are in black plastic pots (2.5 gal) and then were inside large ceramic pots and I found the space between the two pots was a wonderful hidey place for slugs and snails, so now the big pots are upside down and the plastic pots are up on top. Any idea if that tall shiny ceramic surface will combat climbing?

Thanks

Susan
