Hi. I am a student at Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA. I am a biology major and my interest is in botany. I am looking for somewhere that would provide me a good learning experience. I would like to work with eastern species of cypripedium and their conservation. Does anyone know of any programs? Thanks.
I did graduate study under the direction of Dr. Martha Case of the College of William and Mary, in Williamsburg, Virginia. She is likely the foremost expert on eastern US Cypripedium evolution and systematics, and also does a lot of conservation research with may plant species. She is always glad to accept research students. If your school has opportunities to fund research experience at other schools, you may be able to find work at William and Mary during the summer. But, why limit yourself to Cypripedium? There are many orchid genera in need of conservation work. Dr. Lisa Wallace at Univ. of Mississsippi (I think) does systematics and conservation work with Platanthera and Spiranthes. Good luck. Let us know what you find.
