Here's some pots of plants excavated from the ground to huddle inside while it's too cold. Then back outside in the spring! Sorry the pics are small, Imageshack is doing that. Maybe you can get a bigger version clicking on them, I can't figure it out. I thought there were too many pics for individual posts... Begonias, Hemigraphis, the Tradescantia pallida is hardy but the above-ground parts are lost to frost. Might as well start new plants with them over winter. Sans, more Begonia, Tradescantia, ZZ, Callisia fragrans: Begonia, Aglaonema, misc cuttings. Rex Begonia vine cuttings put in water for a few weeks until roots appeared, Brugmansia cutting, Tradescantia 'Red Hill.' The 2 pots on the left are from a recent trade but the pot on the right is excavated ground plants, Sans, Coleus, Callisia fragrans, another Begonia. Plectranthus 'Mona Lavender' with Tradescantia cuttings. Couple of Aglaonemas, Begonias. More Ags and Tradescantia. These 2 Ags are losing some leaves over this, the hardest adjustment (apparent so far) of any of them. I left the soon-to-be-lost leaves on, on purpose. These were desperately thirsty when I dug them up, that probably didn't help.

Yes, Portulaca pilosa. Tough plants, for sure. :)

You're welcome, but Nancy's comment was what pointed *me* in the right direction. I just knew it wasn't P. pilosa because after admiring that tiny plant in the cracks of parking lots and in the gravel at the side of the road for years, I was finally able to get a good picture and ID it on the NTP forum. It's a native, kind of unusual when it comes to tiny but still showy, noticeable flowers. A few little pieces of P. pilosa I rescued from the parking lot across the street before it was repaved are struggling (or maybe just going dormant,) but hopefully they dropped seeds in their pot if the mamas don't make it. I adore tiny plants and this is probably the cutest one I've ever seen. I hope to use some in a fairy garden pot next spring.

Portulaca oleracea has plants with single blooms. I have a link below to a picture of one from the Lazy S's farm Nursery website. Ihave never ordered from them, but it looks like they carry some harder to find plants. Here is a link that might be useful: Portulaca oleracea
