ID woodland broadleaf plant with blue berries

Can anyone ID a woodland plant that grows in shade/part shade. About 1 foot tall, It has glossy green broad leaves, alternate, arranged up the single stem. Bright blue berries in the leaf axil, turning black. This is not Blue Cohosh which I have plenty of.

I will promote this just for its leaves, the berries are a plus.

How about Solomon's Seal, Polygonatum biflorum?

No-definitely not Polygonatum which does not have broad leaves or blue/black berries. I'm wondering if it isn't Asarum(wild ginger).

Pokeberry has long old drupes of berries and is edible if you get the leaves young and boil it a few times. This is Deadly Nightshade and will kill ya! Here's a pokeberry pic. I love pokeberry. Spiderwort (Tradescantia) and in light shade some of the iris and Stokesia. Hydrophyllum if is a moist site, Aster cordifolius, some of the western Aquilegias well as those already mentioned. I do love the spring phlox! And I agree that adding some white for contrast will make the blues show up better.

Thank you both for the help. I checked this out on the New England Wildflower Society database and Veronica officinalis looks exactly right. Not a native, but common. Apparently can be invasive but not the worst of the worst. I'll keep an eye on it.

Solomon's seal DOES have blue black berries. Asarum doesn't have berries and doesn't have a single stem.
