Buttercup like yellow plant id

I am trying to nail down the identity of a small plant that resembles a buttercup. The leaves are lobed and look somewhat like cinquafoil leaves and somewhat like common butter cup leaves but more defined. The flower is bright yellow with 5 petals well separated.

This plant is located on our farm in the SW part of Missouri on a southern facing glade. Thanks for any help.

My definition is any plant which INSISTS upon being where I insist it not be. Osteos become that here, self seeding and germinating vigorously anywhere they can get a foot hold. Not quite as much as alyssum, and much more vigorously rooted and permanent than that one. If they remained the shorter, bushier plant the ads claim them to be, perhaps they would be nicer. They don't, though. Like a berry plant, they flop over, root along the growth and create new shoots in addition to the seedlings. I doubt you would have the issue elsewhere in climates not like their places of origin, but that's what they frequently do here. Kim

Correct, both Senecio plattensis and S.aureus are now Packera plattensis and P.aurea I beieve the plant is P.aurea -- look at the basal leaves clearly seen on "Yellow weed pt2" link above. Compare them to plattensis/aurea basal leaves (more images could be found under the old name -- Senecio aureus).

I don't know how to identify them other than by the flowers, but getting rid of them will be a task. I have read that consistent cutting and pulling will eventually exhaust the bulbs and, over the course of several years, reduce or eliminate the presence of buttercup oxalis.

Looks like a Buttercup because it is one. Don't know the species, but definitely a Ranunculus sp.

Lycopus, I suspected that it was a Ranunculus but because it was so alone while all the rest on our land are in colonies wanted to confirm.

RW, thanks for nailing down the exact species for me. I had seen the pic from the link you sent but wasn't sure. So, this little beauty, all alone, will probably be joined by more next Spring.
