They look like tall asters of some sort. They grow wild here and I have lots of them. They bloom in late summer and through early fall. They spread from roots and seeds that can blow in the breeze from other areas. They can be invasive in moist soil. Covered in beautiful little star-like flowers in either blues, pinks, whites or lilac colors. That is what I would say they are - Asters. However, there is another WEED that looks much like that. Has minimal flowers and isn't worth keeping. If they are those, PULL THEM OUT! Check out the link below. I went and looked up pictures of the mallow. It's also called French Hollyhock (which sounds better) I'm pretty sure that's what it is now. I guess it's biennial which is why this huge crop didn't happen till now. The kind I planted is Zebrina. I had no idea it went so nuts! I have tons of them and I already pulled a ton out! I guess I'll just wait and see if it blooms...I have them sprouting up in sidewalk cracks and in between rocks and everywhere. p.s. I also have this, I think, creeping buttercup, that I planted and it IS a weed. I planted it in my rock garden 3 years ago and it has completely taken over. It's covering the whole garden (about 12x8ft) So, if anyone wants to cover a big area fast plant that. It has cute yellow buttercups all over it that are bloooming now. But I think I'm going to have to start my rock garden over.
