Either a grass or an Allium, the 'flower' is an injury where two leaves became entangled. If it's an Allium you should be able to smell onion when you crush a leaf.

Hi, Painted trillium keys out very nice for me. Thanks for the good identification. It looked sorta bizarre and out of place in the forest. The soil is ridiculous acidic were I live and I gather this plant gets an advantage over other species because of that.

Or take a look at Wisteria. That's the only one I can think of that might grow straight up 5' without something to support it, and even that seems unlikely. It does have speckled stems. How thick are the thickest stems? Could it have started out growing around a small tree or something that has since died? Keep an eye on it for flowers or fruit/pods/seeds - like hortster says, without a picture that description fits an awfully lot of plants. Just looks like the normal Dutch version. Mine have seeded out, too. You may be near an old home place. The wild hyacinth you are thinking of, I believe, is Camassia scilloides, which is much taller. However, you are finding goodies in your part of the world, so you should report this if you think it is the Camassia. It is indeed on the threatened list in NC.
