Scape/pods question

Asking for your indulgence once again with my questions.

Tell me about scapes and/or pods. Many of my hosta are very young but have 2, 3, even 4 scapes, some have pods - is that indicative of a healthy, happy plant? Or perhaps just genetics?

Also, on a few plants, the scape starts to develop and then browns out and dies before flowering, am I doing something wrong?

I do suspect that I may be guilty of overwatering, noticing some mold growth and mushrooms in the soil around a couple hosta and some rot on the base of my Empress Wu. I pulled the rotted leaf from the base (she only has 6 now :( and cut back watering, big time!

Finally, for those folks in zone 6, are your hosta starting to show signs of going dormant; ie, yellowing to browning of leaves? Not sure if my babies are doing what comes naturally or due to watering issue above.

As always, thank you for your help!
