Looks like Nepeta cataria, Catnip.

I love wildflowers. I am still discovering blooms I have never seen before here at my place after nearly twenty years. I don't know any of the names but am always pleasantly surprised.

Are you sure that is a Kalmia? The flowers do not look like any I have seen. Typically, the petals are not divided at all but fused into a very geometric 5-sided shape. And the stamens seldom protrude beyond the end of the petals. The buds are also much more distinctly shaped than those showing. It does look somewhat like a cultivar called 'Comet' (also one called 'Shooting Star') but the plant looks much more rhododendron-like to me.
