Help identify this wildflower?

It was found near the edge of a pond, in Windsor,Ontario..It's obviously a wildflower because it was in a nature reserve, and there was only a few plants..

It had long stems with little leaves, kind of like oregano, with tube-like white flowers..Both the flowers and leaves were aromatic (and smelled great!).

Pity we can't see the leaves. But it could be Mentha aquatica, Water Mint, an introduced species. (btw some websites have incorrect pictures. 'Canada plants' shows Cardamine pratensis as Mentha aquatica.) Sadly being on a nature reserve is not a guarantee that a plant is native.

I was thinking maybe peppermint (M. aquatica is one of the parents). Definitely not our only native mint, M. canadensis, which doesn't form a terminal cluster of flowers like that.

I happen to like Digitalis grandiflora which is a true perennial while many other Digitalis species are not. For example, Digitalis purpurea is biennial. The flower color of Digitalis grandiflora blends with any color. It's a great plant and you will find it in many of the finest gardens.

Asclepias includes a number of different cultivars with a wide variety of leaf shapes and flowers of many different colors. Are you familiar with butterflyweed? That's an asclepias. I'm not sure how many asclepias have waxy leaves, but not all of them. At least some of the thoroughworts have opposite leaves.
