Was more or less wondering if I can get away with planting it in the open. I have more space to plant it there. The walls are starting to fill in.

Some of the wine grapes are quite tasty. The downside with them is they have seeds. My thoughts echoed Fruitnut's. The in-laws won't be able to tell one grape plant from another. Plant one you want and call the plant "the grapevine gift". Thank the in-laws for the nice gift when you harvest fruit. I would suggest planting close to a property line. Grapevines can make very nice screens for privacy. I would also point out that it is bit ungrateful to complain that a gift wasn't what you'd buy for yourself. It seems a very thoughtful gift to me.

I've used the NCFHP recipe below to make grape jelly with wild grapes (which are around pea-sized, bluish-purple, and tart) and the jelly is pretty good. Rodney Here is a link that might be useful: Making Jelly without Added Pectin

[I posted this in the Fruit Forum, but then thought this might be a better place for my question.] I was lucky enough to have someone on this forum send me some grape cuttings several months ago, and I rooted them and they're doing pretty well. There are several varieties and they've leafed out well; they're about 1' high and are individually potted in 1-2 gallon pots. I live in the Seattle area (Zone 8), and it usually stays above freezing for most of the winter, although we do have an occasional cold snap of up to 3 days where it gets down to 15 degrees F at night. What should I do with my potted grape vines for the winter to make sure they make it to spring ok? I plan on planting them next year, and want to take good care of them until then. Can they be left outside in the pots?
