Funnily enough, I've just been trying to figure out the differences between the three that really look alike. From what I can see in the picture, I'd say that one is Erigeron strigosus. But you'd really need to see the stem/leaves more closely to be sure. (E philadelphicus - leaf bases clasp the stem; E. annuus, pretty hairy, leaf bases don't clasp the stem; leaves mostly toothed; E. strigosus, stem leaves mostly narrow and not toothed, hairs short and laying flat(strigose). I think I see a lot of narrow toothless leaves in there. WW

At the park where I walk the dog on the days she comes to work with me in Cary there are some wonderful Salvia lyrata's with the distinctive purple veins. I collected seeds and sprouted them the following spring. Just about everyone of them had a different leaf pattern - some were almost solid purple like the 'Purple Volcano' you see at the garden centers. Very few were streaked like the originals which is the pattern I wanted. I just wish they would develop one that bloomed a few times and for longer periods like some of the other sages.

Pictures do help immensely! But I might guess a blackberry lily (Belamcanda chinensis). It's not a native plant but I believe that it has escaped gardens in some locations. It is currently (at least in Western NY State) showing off its seeds - which is where it gets the blackberry lily name. The seeds are a blue/black color and the leaves are somewhat flag like.
