I don't know whats happening there. Those grapes do look like females and not some wild grape. Different varieties do take different numbers of years to come into fruiting, but this far apart seems like a stretch. There is a small chance there could be a nutrient deficiency of e.g. Boron. I would throw on some micronutrient fertilizer like Plant Tone to coverer that case. Also make sure not to over fertilize, some varieties respond to that with nothing but growth. I don't think you have a disease there, the plants look healthy. One other possibility is the variety is some official grape variety but not Fredonia, and it is one that needs pollination. Very few grape varieties need pollination and your Concord should be giving it, so this is a remote possibility. I would give it a few cups Plant tone or similar for the next few years and otherwise not fertilize. If it doesn't fruit in two more years, pull it out. Let us know what fertilizer and how much you have been giving it, to see if it sounds like too much. Scott

I remember my first dealings w/ this vine was back when I was a teenager :) That was a *few decades ago. We had this vine in the middle of a bed of azaleas and every freaking month, that vine would come back on its root system. It literally took us about 8 months of 2 or 3 times a month digging to get to the root system. It's not enough to "pull the vine"...what has to happen is the root system to that vine (everywhere it comes out of the ground) has to be gotten up with out being disturbed and broken apart. When I saw your original picture, it was like the summer of the late 70's early 80's. That vine was my nightmare. I pray it will be better for you. If you've caught it early that will probabaly work to your advantage. Dora

WONDERFUL! Thank you so much Linda! Can I ask -- I have a big 4' deep, 6' high "arch" with a 4"x4" grid right next to these, used for arbor-trellis. The vines are a problem, they've grown between the fence posts and the fence of my neighbor, and I need to try and gently get them out of there. Can I sort of gently just weave them over/ through the trellis-arch? I can devote that one to it, since these are in the ground right next to it. They were not meant to be trellis though and I'll have to give that whole arch over to them. They are one of the only plants I have in the actual ground (I use cinderblock 24-36" raised beds), so now I'm in a tizzy wondering how they are surviving our lousy soil and what I should put on them to help them. :-) I love January. I get totally garden-nuts, mostly because there is so little I can do besides clean up and winter sow. :-)

Since you have so many plans and dreams, maybe something like Dreamy Acres or Dreamland Woods? or Hopes and Dreams Hollow (Hopes n Dreams Hollow). But you don't want it to sound like your hopes and dreams are hollow (not coming to fruition). OMG, I just looked at this definition !
