Yes, you can grow pomegranate bushes in Utah. The Russian-Turk pomegranates survive down to zone 6. I am currently living in zone 6b and growing both Russian 26, and Salavatski. The question is whether or not you will get a fruitful harvest. If you are willing to do a little work you can grow them outside and still have a harvest. You will need to plant them in a micro-zone warm spot usually on the south side of your house. A micro-zone will bring the growing perimeter up to zone 7. In order to get a harvest your pomegranate will have to start blooming in April. You can put stakes around your bush and then staple 6 mil plastic drop cloth around the stakes creating a temporary anti-freeze zone and this will help warm the bush up and bring it out of dormancy quickly. You can do the same thing to extend the growing season if your pomegranates are not yet ripe by November. Hope this helps.

I agree with Josh - providing a period of cold, a 'chill' factor that encourages a proper dormant cycle outdoors or in any unheated structure - is not exactly "growing the trees indoors". You are just holding them inside for a period of time. Plants which are hardy to temperate climates do not make satisfactory long-term 'houseplants' for simply that reason. If you cannot provide a consistent, sufficiently long chill period to stimulate a proper dormancy or quiescence, the plant will not survive for very long......a few growing seasons at best before it starts to decline. And FYI, any term which is used as slang to refer to someone of another racial or cultural background is considered pejorative or an ethnic slur. If you were Japanese, perhaps you might see the offense in such terminology. It is not considered acceptable usage in educated, polite company. If you need the abbreviate the term, just use the initial "J" followed by maple.

Think you cant fully grown them in sand. As "mineral " the soil is as they like it, they still need some of that good old nitrogen in their infancy to actually grow. Need i remind you that most cacti germinate in animal droppings.....So, they might need to be transplanted earlier than their soil germinated counterparts. I think they ought to be moved gradually to coarser, less organic soil as they slowly loose their humidity resistance....

So I almost killed my Orange tree a few weeks ago due to me not being able to water it and a growth light being on 24/7 for about 3 weeks (amazon plug malfunctioned). The tree dropped all of its leaves and I thought it was almost dead. I still watered it and left it for dead. I decided since it had no leaves to turn on the Christmas lights on it and within a few days as a joke and I noticed the thing started to put flowers (yes in the middle of winter.) So I was like ok...then started to cut the little oranges that would grow into oranges (to re-route energy to green growth) thinking if it was putting flowers then for sure it wasn’t dead. I decided to trim the thing agressively thinking worst thing it can happen is the tree die. Within a week the tree was full of new green growth shooting leaves and branches (don’t know how you call them) everywhere. Do you think the christmas lights have something to do with it? They are the cheap led kind - blue, green, red - or am I just crazy? Thing is the tree is growing like mad even way more than it has ever grown on summer even full sun. The growth light I use it only for winter survival practically since its small (Spider Farmer 1000) and I only use it for around 5 hours at night so it can’t be the one making the tree grow. I know it may sound like exageration but the whole house smell like perfume now from all the flowers it keeps putting everyday.
