Wild Hydrangea

Hello I have some beautiful old Bridal Wreath Spirea that was planted when my house was built in the late 20's. There is wild hydrangea growing amongst it. I would like to get rid of it as it is encroaching on the house, under the porch, out the sides and into my bleeding hearts! My husband has cut it out but it continues to grow back from an obvious tremendous root sytem. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of it without damaging the spirea?
