If you can, set it on fire next spring or this fall. You will be amazed at how it sets back the cool season weeds and grasses and gives the warm season natives a huge advantage. It really takes three good years of mowing and burning to break the non-native weed cycle and for your natives to get mature enough to make a run at going to seed with gusto. Don't worry about the daisy fleabane, it will be less next year especially if you mow it before it sets seed. Steve

Newish to SA by way of the DoD. Just saw this posting. Bought a new house and have been going crazy with landscaping, granted it seems to be a tad different than what you all do. Is this once a year or other? If once a year, would there be interest next uear for any of the following: Goji berry Honeyberry Blueberry southern Pink lemonade blueberry Brown turkey fig Everbearing fig Pineapple guava Named versions of dragonfruit (purple haze, American beauty, and another. May have other types ready to propagate by then) Pomaagranet If I can acquire good root stalk I have some great, sweet kumquats, sutsumi. Can not guarantee Meyers lemon would be ready. Loquat And this bush that grow REALLY good here. Stayed green all year and has maroon/reddish thistle haired type of flower or something. Pretty sure I can root cuttings as this thing grew from 2ft to about 5ft in 8 months And if interested may pull up rootball for this black leaved crape myrtle. It was planted in yard, thought it was dead in the winter and mowed over 3" new growth. Just seeing as some of my stuff may take time to graft or root.

In eastern Mass. at least, the most common plant that meets the 'daisy' archetype (Jungian perhaps? It seems like kids know how to draw them without actually seeing one) -- fairly large flower, white petals, yellow center (I apologize to the botanists cringing at my inaccurate use of these terms for composites) -- is the oxeye daisy, a non-native. The easiest way to identify it is the depression in the center of the yellow (which is lacking from the flowers in the picture from Utah). Asters and fleabanes, while they also may have white petals and yellow centers, are generally too small to fit my concept of a daisy. My field guide's description of wild chamomile is consistent with the flowers and foliage in the photo. (Oxeye daisy leaves are much wider and lobed/serrated.) Other daisy-like flowers in my guide (albeit only an eastern U.S guide) are: sneezeweed yarrow, mayweed, feverfew, and scentless chamomile, all non-natives to this area.
