Evergreen fast growing climbers

Hello, I am trying to find out if there is any fast growing evergreen climbers that can be planted against a west facing wall to provide cover for a very large, intrusive footbridge that has been erected next to our property. Ideally it should be able to reach great heights, 10mtrs plus, but would be interested in anything that could give us some privacy and sound proofing! We have just planted 40 willow plants that should help with screening, but need alot more quick, large growing plants.

Denise, at the very least, we need to know where you are located to make suggestions. In many areas, the list of evergreen climbers is very short and none come to mind that would rapidly achieve the height you want - at least none that I would recommend with a clear conscience. You might be better off with some narrow evergreen screening but what that might be is determined best by where you live.

nah, there are plenty of conifers/evergreens that don't max out over 50ft. I just figured I'd ask here rather then search each type and then about their windthrow resistance, soil type acceptance, growth rate, mature height, lifespan, disease resistance, etc. Don't worry about longevity....the trees will outlive you. Just plant what you like. It's not for what I like, 'leave my mark' just meant a good, solid tree in the right location that'll last and likely not wanted to be replaced... ..Usually people rip out species that were malpruned or skipped too many prunings and became scraggly. I probably will plant at least a couple GGiants, it's a great tree except for unknown lifespan.. There's no reason to think that 'Green Giant' and 'Smaragd' will up and die after the brief spans you have stated for each here. True, 25 years (I meant 25 which a quick googling says, not 20yr), 25 seems underestimated for emerald green arborvitae... Maybe 35-40? I also meant Japanese Arborvitae, not Chinese. AKA Thuja standishii which is what makes up half of the green giant, I'll search more for standishii lifespan to maybe ensure a bit more that the Green Giant arborvitae might actually live very long. Either way, based on the other half of the GGiant being a western red cedar AKA Thuja standishii that is known to live up to ~1,400 years, I have hope GGiants do last long, but I doubt it's all a simple as just an average of the parent plants, even if disregarding things like growing site conditions.

Amending is for growing annual flowers and vegetable plants. Anyway: how deep is this bed, as in from front to back? From the view provided it doesn't look nearly wide enough to house anything of much height. And it sounds like the environmental conditions there* may not lend themselves to having a large range of ornamental trees and shrubs to draw from - especially something that could be expected to produce a dense, lush looking tall evergreen screen. Like might be pretty common in a rainier climate with higher winter temperatures. With it probably being most efficient to visit any retail outlets serving your area next spring, seeing what they have that might be fit the bill. (And being sure to look up what you find there and check local suitability - all the more so if what catches your interest is being viewed at a warehouse store). Maybe something like one of the Rocky Mountain juniper cultivars. *Ponderosa pine occupies a huge amount of the western landscape in part because of its exceptional tolerance to extreme site conditions including severe drought

Ron, again more information is needed. How large a trough? What kind of drainage? How large a plant? Sun, shade? How hardy does it need to be? Is evergreen important?

The more information you can provide initially, the more likely you are to get some meaningful suggestions. Also, it is not considered good form to tack on a separate request to an existing thread, specially one that has a direct send to the OP's email. It's the internet equivalent of interrupting a conversation. Start a new one.

Hello,
I'm from the salem area of Oregon and I am also in need of an evergreen climber.
It needs to be drought tolerant, at least 8ft tall, and will be planted in full sun exposure in clay soil.
I need to cover up a chain link fence about 20' in length and 6' in height.
Thanks for any ideas!! :)

jollie hanna - is honeysuckle evergreen in your area? Or there's Clematis armandii (which has rule the world tendencies in my zone). For a solid wall, and a friendly zone, there's Ficus pumila, jasmine, Trachelospermum and (gasp!) Hedera canariensis or helix.

Please note: 'fast growing' can also mean untold trouble further along. In the 'right' place each of these can turn into a home-owner's nightmare. For me - each of these is a weed species.
