identification of weed

I keep finding a "plant" that grows along the edge of a swamp on my property here in south Florida. For the life of me, I can find no connection with it to the ground. It is composed of yellowish tendrils that wrap around other plants. Grows very quickly.

I have uploaded a photo of it to the following URL

Although Dodder seed germinates in moist soil, it soon attaches itself to host plant and becomes parasitic. Dodder is a flowering plant. It lacks chlorophyll so all nutrition comes from host. You have one of the Cuscuta species.

No. 1 looks like it could be Black Medic. No. 2 looks like it might be wild strawberry. Both grow best in soils more acidic than most turf grasses like, so the first thing you need is a good, reliable soil test to see what your soil nutrient load and pH is.

If it's the same stuff as what lines the roadsides in this area, it's Glandularia. Used to be included with Verbena, I think. If so, not native, but definitely ubiquitous! http://allthingsplants.com/plants/view/124328/South-American-Mock-Vervain-Glandularia-pulchella/

I'm afraid I hacked at the leaves and flowers before I pulled it out, but I'll go out and take a photo of what's left. Yes, it was a vegetable garden. In the area I found it it was planted with salad greens, most recently buckwheat to replenish the soil.
